I had a combined score of 184 for MX1 and MX2.
Is MATH1141 considerably harder or are there just a few extra topics?
What benefits would MATH1141 have on my GPA/WAM (gunna try transferring to med so need to boost GPA)(also don't know difference between GPA and WAM lol)?
Would it be easier to get distinctions and HDs in MATH1131 considering my maths knowledge, or would it be really difficult to get a HD in MATH1131 because it's not as hard as MATH1141 (ie is it easier to get a HD in math1141)?

Essentially, what's the best option considering my HSC mx1 & mx2 marks, that will ensure a high GPA/WAM?

thanks! :)

I don't think the extra work in MATH1141 is worth it. 1131 and 1141 is essentially the same thing except 1141 has a final harder exam. All assessments prior to the finals, both 1131 and 1141 students do the exact same thing. And nothing is easy in uni to HD unless you put in hard work. However, as a general guide, it is "easier" to get a HD in 1141 compared to 1131 due to scaling.

There are more sub-topics in MATH1141 and the problems are much harder. It 'may' be easier to get a HD in MATH1141 due to scaling but you need to have a decent grasp of the harder content because the final exam will be harder than the MATH1131 exam.

The assessments are the same throughout the semester, but it's expected that the questions you cover in the tutorials are the harder questions.

If you want to get higher marks, due to scaling, you take the Higher course. Moreover, you got 184 combined - I got 165 combined and I still took MATH1141 (and did very well), so you should be fine.

WAM is average mark, GPA basically looks at whether you got distinctions, passes or what and "Averages" it out.

I got 184 in 3 and 4unit and I did 1131 and it was really cruisy for 1131, did next to no work for maths and still got a good mark. If you're a lazy fuck like me do 1131

How much harder will MATH1141 and Higher physics PHYS1131 be compared to doing MATH1131 and PHYS1131?

I don't know about PHYS11[23]1, but the extra work I had to put in for MATH1141 was...well, worth it, but if I had to focus on other subjects more I wouldn't have done MATH1141.

Why do you believe it was worth it?

would MATH1141 have been worth it for your GPA though?

If all you want is a high WAM/GPA, just do MATH1031. Its like revision of 2/3 units of maths.

not really I'm not worried about getting HDs for every subject. I reckon it's easier to get Ds in 1131 and HDs in 1141

and after busting my nut for 4unit in year 12 I really didn't want to do anything harder than I needed to do
