Hey guys,

I applied for accommodation in September last year, but I stuffed up my application and was over seas travelling at the time and couldn't pay for my offer. I then changed my application and put the 3 Kensington colleges as my preferences when I re applied once I was back in Australia. But since then I haven't heard anything. From others with experience, am I like to get an offer for the kenso colleges or is it to late by now? I'm just trying to work out what I'm going to do because I live 600km away from Sydney and realistically am running out of time.
Also do you think that it would help reminding them that I live in such a regional area?

Thanks guys!

Call up the uni immediately for information.

Tell them that you can't go to uni unless you live on campus and they will be sure to help you out and secure accommodation.

In that case, what is your opinion of the fig tree hall accommodation? No alcohol, segregated gender floors with study rooms etc..

Just because I dare say that is where I will end up if nothing is available.

I don't know because I am NOT going to/are living on campus and never will.

I just suggested that was the best thing to do for the time being.

I think a few others may have an answer to that, so just keep bumping the thread until someone answers.

Did you call though?

To my knowledge, as of this Sunday, Colombo Hall still has rooms available for $350/week. Fig Tree Hall is still in construction, but will be ready in a couple of months, and still has rooms available - albeit at a (very) hefty price of $490/week. All rooms at the University Terraces and UNSW Village are fully booked out, as of yesterday (I called them and asked). I THINK Barker apartments might have a room or two available, because there were one or two rooms still unoccupied as of last week, but you should call them and check as soon as you can.

Personally, Fig Tree Hall is not worth the money at all. No alcohol, single gender floors and not catered = definitely not worth the $490 price tag. Have you tried looking for flatmates on gumtree or flatmates.com?

Im pretty sure that fig tree is fully catered. Utilities included. Colombo house is absolutely no catering, and fig tree will be opening for semester one im pretty sure.

I called them yestersay, and they just gave me the same email I keep getting, and I havent had a reply since an email yesterday. Im not too sure what I'm going to do. A lot of people are saying that living on campus is something you should do, and if fig tree is the last option, it might be ok. Although gender segregated floors and being dry sucks a fair bit.

Ah yeah sorry, just checked, Fig Tree is fully catered.

Have you ruled out Colombo completely? I'm looking for a place to live on campus as well (I was signed up for Barker, moved in, then moved straight back out) and it looks like there aren't any options left except Fig Tree/Colombo at this point - but they're so expensive, and I can't afford anything more than 270/week. :/

Well see with colombo being fully un catered, my problem is the shared kitchen. It would be good as it is cheaper. But then look at 350 a week for colombo, withput factoring for food. Its quite expensive for what you get. Oh I see! Are you a first year under grad? Where abouts are you moving from.

Does anyone live in unsw village? I'm gonna go there but not sure what it's like :/
Depends where you end up.

I have one friend who lives there and his room is very quiet, I had another friend end up in a room where she couldn't do any study because her room-mates are all about part-ay-ing, and I know of a few others whose actions even out over time (i.e. some days are PARTAY! others not so much)

Well, one of my friends who is there is quite quiet, another is a real party girl so... it depends - it's uni, it's what you make of it. I'm sure that applies to the village life as well. Also I know there's a massive cleaning spree that goes on near the end of semester before inspections and stuff.

And some rooms are mixed, some are single-sex.

You can ask for a single gender room, but if you don't specify, they usually put you in a mixed gender room.

It's too late to change I think. All rooms have been booked, as of yesterday afternoon. I called them to ask :( If you're bothered about mixed gender rooms, you could always apply to Fig Tree Hall - gender separated floors.

Hi,

Would you like a room at UNSW hall?(the rate there is at $310 per week)
I am not intending to live on campus, but I had booked a room ages ago, and will not be using the room, so I could transfer ownership of my room to you if you like.
If you are interested, just drop me an email at seansiatjunan@gmail.com, or PM me.

It's possible. I got my offer for an 8 bedroom apartment last week or so because someone cancelled their room. What you should do is ring the reception every single day to ask if they have any space. That's what I did. Make sure you ask to speak to Isabella when you call them up, since she's the one in charge.
