I just received my prelim essay assessment back and got a measly 17/20 for quite a long essay. I still didn't finish however and had approx 7.5 pages of an exam booklet (approx 1000 words). How can I write less but still achieve band 6?

There are two ways of nominalising.
Nominalise to make your sentences compact.
Don't nominalise to make them longer. This is something people tend to do more.
