Funny how Chinese and India, two of the smartest race on earth can't run their own countries, but put them together, they become the most efficient country in the world: Singapore.

I think you'll find its the special economic status that the british gave their trading ports - zero taxes, relative autonomy, highly corporatized versions of democracy (Dubai, hong kong, Singapore), that allowed them to develop economically (trading and banking) rather than anything.
