Extension 1 question 11 b be like:
do NOT prove this LOL
Yea I remember reading this in reading time and smirked.

I guess it's a good way to get rid of a few nerves for those who sat the paper. Would be good if actual HSC exams had a few corny jokes chucked in that are clearly visible during reading time.

Also, it's a good way to keep the question in mind during the test. For example, if a really hard question you read in reading time had some joke to it, then throughout the exam that question will be in the back of your head and when you get to it, you might hopefully know exactly what to do for it.

We considered it, but didn't get anything nice out of it.

But notice that the 2U and 3U probability questions were 'game' questions (about having a run of length K), which is similar in flavour I suppose.

Yes... If I recall correctly, it was Volume III of Principia Mathematica by Whitehead and Russell. But I thought 1+1=2 is a defined statement, not a provable one?
Depends whether it is considered an axiom or not. At least in most contexts it is treated like an axiom though that may be different in other contexts (looking at the purists for examples).

Iirc there is some 300+ page proof of 1 + 1 = 2.

I thought you would've gave a troll question : Prove that the probability of the mods winning is 100%.

Notsureifsrs...
If you go on to do some proper analysis in uni you'll see how to "build" heaps of things you just take for granted (i.e. the real numbers).

Very different flavour to high school maths (and if you did the exam I had this year for analysis... shit was hard)
