Never heard of any marks for attendance in MATH1xx1

From memory they only check attendance to see if you deserve the additional assessment, which is what I reckon she was alluding to

No that's why I said no additional assessment lol. They sent an email saying they give 'additional assessment' if you get between 45-49. But ONLY if you have 80%+ attendance and haven't failed your previous assessments or something. I fail both those criteria :/ (stopped attending since I thought attendance was only if you were sick and needed to reschedule).

And yeah that surprised me they do that and brought to mind the horrible possibility of getting 49 and failing by 1 mark.

It's not marks for attendance; it's if you are on 49, and they see you've attended all your classes, the course convener might raise that to a 50 to allow you to pass.

I heard they do not do that anymore.

Like I said, I'm pretty sure they will offer additional assessment only.

It's at the discretion of the course convener, an unwritten agreement between students and lecturers.

There was never an official policy on that; it goes for any course, not just maths.

The additional assessment is a different thing.

Oh gosh. I'd be begging if that happened lol.

Pretty sure the calculator they sold you back in high school can do hyperbolic functions.

Look out for a hyp key on your calculator
i wonder why hs gave us a calc where you don't need half the buttons most of the time

Pls show me a calculator that has only the buttons you need, and no more.

Re: UNSW chit chat thread 2016

im not complaining but i've always wondered if a simpler calculator would've worked too
Simplify it and boom you're left with the one that can do nothing but operations ignoring BODMAS

Hyp -> Not even BODMAS. No in-betweens? :p

Today a friend showed me how to find the standard deviation/ variance using the HS calculator. Was pretty awesome albeit complicated (in terms of finger-work).

I kind of like my calculator though- seems almost like a little puzzle that you slowly start to figure out when learn more. A puzzle whose keys have nearly been scrubbed off fml I'm going to be squinting so hard during my exams.

Re: UNSW chit chat thread 2016

Yeah don't do it in sem 2, there's a lot of maths in 1102 just a heads up.
PHOTAA! :) :)

Ahh crap, like a lot of hard maths or just a lot of math? The latter I can deal with, the former means hunting around early for a math god to attach to (like Integrand yaas?). Had a quick skim over the topics in 1102 and most look like HSC economics (Fiscal, monetary, exchange rate, economic growth etc.) iirc didn't see too much math in HSC Eco, so I guess my question is: where does the math come in in 1102?

Is stats one of those subjects that become significantly harder in sem 2 (like FINS1613), or just one that becomes a little harder?

Re: UNSW chit chat thread 2016

Imagine if I got 49 in math,

I'd die seriously

and no I would not be allowed to do the 'additional assessment'.
49 exam or 49 oberall, cause if you got 49 in exam you can still pass. I read through the outline and it didnt specify that you need to pass finals to pass course
