Thank you for agreeing! Well with the whole COVID-19 situation, we had to also do the online learning for a few weeks in term 2 I think it was - this year has gone by so quickly! But after that, we were back to face to face learning quite early considering some of the other states weren't as fortunate. Considering its QLD's first year of ATAR, our state had 4 weeks of external exams. It was going quite well until many schools, including mine, were disrupted because of a bomb hoax which affected the general mathematics and specialist mathematics exams at my school as these subjects were on in the afternoon when it happened. What about your school experience in NSW?
I'm not familiar with this subject, but I had a quick look at the syllabus and it does seem similar to this subject. I hope your year 11 and 12 studies go well!
That's interesting with the exams since we had the same experience here in NSW, apparently there were bomb hoaxes during exams as well. School in NSW probably doesn't deviate too much from QLD, besides slightly different subjects and whatnot. Also I find it strange when I hear for some of your subjects you have "Unit 4" or "Unit 3" or something like that, but does anyone call it the other way around like "3 unit" or "4 unit"? We formerly called some of our subjects over here as "2 unit" or "3 unit". Originally our hardest high school math course (Math Extension 2) was called "4 unit math" but now the terms are used interchangeably. Besides that, idk hahaha NSW is alright in terms of school experience but I'd expect the school environment to be roughly the same as QLD, Aussie stereotyping at it's finest

Yes, I heard about the bomb hoaxes in NSW and Victoria too. So in QLD, we study subjects based on units and within these units there are topics. Each subject has "4 units" that we take over year 11 and 12. "Unit 1" and "Unit 2" or "unit 1 and 2" is studied in year 11 and "unit 3" and "unit 4" or "unit 3 and 4" is studied in year 12 (which is term 4, year 11 and then term 1 and 2 year 12). Each unit is 15 weeks long. That's the strange part, some units are carried over holidays. Anyway, that's the QCAA for you. No, I don't think its ever said the other way around? Yes, that's true, QLD is weird because many of the other states just have ATAR which, you're right, is pretty much the whole of Australia.
So long story short, 2020 is the first time for ATAR. Before this, QLD did offer ATAR based courses, but students would receive an OP rather than an ATAR. OP = "Overall position" (so strange). It ranged from 1 - 25, with 1 being like 99 ATAR and 25 like a 40 ATAR I guess. There are conversion tables for it.
Also, with the "old system" as we call it (OP), there were no externals. Every student had to take the QCS test (Queensland Core Skills Test), which was kind of like a senior NAPLAN in a way. It included every subject. So students' needed to have a general understand of pretty much everything.
I really like the new ATAR system.
It seems much fairer.Their units are the equivalent of our Modules in Sciences. E.g. every subject you learn 4 units of content over y11,12. Same in Victoria. and then they calculate atar. I would suppose each subject is calculated as what we in NSW see as '2 units'.
Yeah, that's true. Since it is the first year, there are no references or comparable scores. Our ATAR is calculated from our achievements in the final 2 units - unit 3 and 4.
Ah I see yeh it's kinda like what we have over here as "Modules" (what idkkdi mentioned above) where we have Module 1, 2, 3, and 4 which are preliminary or Year 11, and Module 5, 6, 7, and 8 for HSC, and we're only tested on the HSC modules. I think the term "unit" over here then is to distinguish between the difficulty of the courses and how much more work is associated with it
