There are a few ways in which schools provide UAC with information/ratings regarding students.
Schools will rate students according to their assessment of students' performance in year 12 across the following subjects/subject areas:
- English/Humanities/Social Sciences
- Mathematics
- Science
- Agriculture
- Creative Arts
- Languages
- Technology.
Schools will also rate students according to their assessment of students' ability to undertake tertiary study in the following fields:
- Commerce
- Health
- Education
In addition to academic performance and tertiary study suitability, schools will also rate students according to their assessment of students':
- capacity for abstract thought and analysis
- ability to organise ideas and articulate a position orally and in written form
- ability to work and learn independently
- motivation to achieve long-term goals
- capacity for tertiary study
With that being said, it is important to keep in mind that different institutions may have additional, specific SRS selection criteria, which can be accessed using the following link:
SRS is one way institutions make early offers of undergraduate admission to Year 12 students, using criteria other than (or in addition to) the ATAR.

I hope this helps!
