I'm sure I'm not the only one who hates these
Anyone have any tips and advice on how to perfect them?

It's really irritating how you have to sound like you're talking casually, but at the same time you need to say really complex thoughts/ideas? Idk it's just hard to write without sounding artificial

With writing discursive writing, I recommend studying perfect examples (20/20) and picking out specific characteristics you enjoy about them to integrate with your writing. Personally, I used to write discursive writing like essays (i.e. you have an idea with introduction, body and conclusion) but I have come to realise that it is much more flexible and you should write whatever comes to mind in discursive writing, which is why I find it better than writing a narrative in exam conditions. The best idea is to pick out a core theme you want to focus on and think about how you would address that within your discursive piece.

Yeah that was my initial problem...my language was way too formal.
Then I fixed that and now I'm writing too personally. Can't find a balance

Yepo, structure's not a problem it's more so the content I guess.

And I digress...I find narratives easier in exam conditions
