Are marks aligned after or before internals and externals are combined (1 Viewer)

Lets say in Physics I got a 86 external and 74 internal.

Would they be combined and then allinged? Like combined 80, then aligned to like 85?

Or would they be allinged first like 88 external and 80 internal to average out to 84?

For higher scaling subjects, the first method would provide a much higher alligned mark

ur external is aligned to a exam mark
ur internal is moderated based off the aligned mark that corresponds with your rank (with adjustments based on gaps and marks between ranks which they factor in too but it isn't clear how big of a role this plays)
then they are averaged out to give ur final hsc mark

The external marks are first aligned, then the internal marks are moderated based on your ranking and your cohort’s aligned external marks as a whole in a subject, and then the two are averaged.

Your internal marks aren’t technically aligned per se, but they are based on your cohorts aligned marks so in effect they are.

wait but with the aligning process does it mean that u can compare hsc marks for a subject across different years as the markers align it based on difficulty? but iv'e hear this is not the case so do they then follow other criteria?

in theory you could since they just follow the band descriptors but realistically it’s up to human discretion within NESA, it’s far from exact science.
