Sorry to bother, but would anyone please be able to explain this question to me??


It is from Syd Girls 2023 Adv. Trial paper... I have literally been stuck on it for more than 30 mins and I keep getting a=13 ...

Just one question though, for the area of the trapezium, why is it calculated from -4 to -1, instead of -6 to -1?

i think its cos the bounds of the integral in the given equation is -4 to a

Watch out with these sorts of questions, with an unknown as a boundary of integration as there can be multiple answers.

In fact, if this question did not implicitly require , there would be two answers.

If this same diagram were given (but in a non-MCQ) along with the definite integral

There would be 2 or 3 possible values for , depending on the value of .
