Im not that big of an expert on the stock market, but would you say it's a lot more accesible to people who aren't like multi-millionaires?
The way people trade stocks has been altered by the rise of no-fee apps like Robinhood. Apps like this have democratised investing. Small investors far removed from traditional banks/funds, now have free access to sophisticated trading instruments. Also instead of paying an analyst at a big firm or hedge fund a cut of the profit or a fee, you can simply make a reddit account now and get free advice online (as is what happened with AMC and GME).

It's tanking now that a few apps temporarily halted buying and only allowed selling. Shorting any stock (let alone GME) is highly risky even for those who know what they're doing. A lot of people tried to short Tesla as well and they got absolutely rekd - even though everyone agrees its highly overvalued, there's a lot of psychos out there who are willing to chuck everything into it to keep pumping it up.
