How does studying for 4u maths work? I heard that you need to also study advanced along with 3u and 4u. Is this true?
Sorry digging up an old thread, but is that all the topics that wont be tested in 3U/4U maths? Just wanna know so I can be aware of how much time I should spend on 2U maths from next term and what topics I can ignore to prioritise 4U.yeah u do but all the finance + stats + probability crap at the end of 2u isn't tested so u don't need to bother studying for that crap
I hate to bring up old threads but could you provide the link for where you got this image fromYes, I believe that you will need to study Mathematics Advanced content concurrently with Mathematics Extension 1 and Mathematics Extension 2 content. The difference lies in the fact that you will not be completing Mathematics Advanced assessment tasks/exams (this includes the HSC exam). Instead you will be required to complete assessment tasks/exams within the Mathematics Extension 1 and Mathematics Extension 2 courses (including the HSC exam for both subjects).
NESA states the following:
Mathematics Advanced consists of the courses Mathematics Advanced Year 11 and Mathematics Advanced Year 12. Students studying one or both Extension courses must study both Mathematics Advanced Year 11 and Mathematics Extension Year 11 courses before undertaking the study of Mathematics Extension 1 Year 12, or both Mathematics Extension 1 Year 12 and Mathematics Extension 2 Year 12.
Additionally, consider this diagram from NESA:

I hope this helps!
Sure, this is from page 12 of the Mathematics Advanced syllabus document.i

thank you so much also I couldn't find it anywhere but where does nesa state that the advanced assessments are not required to be completedSure, this is from page 12 of the Mathematics Advanced syllabus document.
I think that it is about whether the student intends to keep Mathematics Extension 2. Keeping Mathematics Extension 2 means that Mathematics Advanced would not count as part of the student's subjects. As such, there is no point in completing Mathematics Advanced assessment tasks/exams. On the other hand, if the student decides to drop Mathematics Extension 2, then Mathematics Advanced will count as part of their subjects.thank you so much also I couldn't find it anywhere but where does nesa state that the advanced assessments are not required to be completed
yeah ive had the same understanding as u and I totally get that but ive already dropped to 10 units which means I cant drop 4u anymore, but I need documents to show my teacher this to prove my case but o cant seem to find anything which explicitly states thatI think that it is about whether the student intends to keep Mathematics Extension 2. My understanding is that students stop engaging with the Mathematics Advanced assessment tasks/exams when they decide to keep Mathematics Extension 2, which may happen at a different time during the year depending on the student. Completing Mathematics Advanced assessment tasks/exams and then deciding to drop Mathematics Extension 2 also allows the student to avoid any progress issues in terms of completing Mathematics Advanced.
I am not entirely sure if I correctly understood your issue. It seems that you dropped another subject that brought your total units down to 10 but you instead want to drop Mathematics Extension 2? If so, then these are two separate matters and the ability to drop Mathematics Extension 2 would require you not to drop the other subject. Otherwise, you simply cannot drop Mathematics Extension 2.yeah ive had the same understanding as u and I totally get that but ive already dropped to 10 units which means I cant drop 4u anymore, but I need documents to show my teacher this to prove my case but o cant seem to find anything which explicitly states that
no I don't want to drop 4U, basically my teachers are saying I have to complete all of the advanced assessments for year 12 but they haven't provided any proof that nesa requires this- which is what im looking for, to disprove their claim coz I thought once you do 4U the advanced assessments are neglectedI am not entirely sure if I correctly understood your issue. not every school removes the 2u course if you do 4u. My school still makes students do advanced if they take the normal stream. It's very common and its simply because they want students to be reassured that if 4u does not pan out, that there will be an outlet that will still favour your atar (assuming you do adequately well in that course).no I don't want to drop 4U, basically my teachers are saying I have to complete all of the advanced assessments for year 12 but they haven't provided any proof that nesa requires this- which is what im looking for, to disprove their claim coz I thought once you do 4U the advanced assessments are neglected
