Okay, so my situation rn is that I have currently 12 units for year 12: physics, chem, english advanced, ancient, maths advanced, maths ext 1 and maths ext 2. Basically, I wanted opinions on whether or not I should drop ancient history, which is by far my most hated subject since I am a STEM nerd 🤓, and I do not know whether or not to drop it now before the end of the term or wait it out

Pros of dropping ancient
  • So much extra time to study: no maths adv assessments + 14 hours of study periods (since I already dropped engineering studies)
  • Since it is SUCH A CONTENT HEAVY SUBJECT, I can barely cope with it rn in week 7 (for me) let alone next year, that dedication for ancient can be all shifted towards maths ext 2 and physics since they are really rewarding but hard
  • I LOVE maths ext 2 and it is so fun doing it so if I have that extra time then I can really nerd out
  • I do not have to study for the ancient history assessment, which is week 10 or maybe start of term 1 week 1
  • There are SO MANY TERMS AND SOURCES + my class is doing rome, greece, rome and more rome, so we are doing the lame boring subjects 😞 (WHERE IS EGYPT?!?!?! :chainsaw2:)

Cons of dropping ancient
  • I am fully locked into maths ext 2, meaning that if I have any urge to leave I literally cannot drop it (although I wasn't planning to)
  • ATAR will be affected if I do not do good in mx2, but I do not really care if I get like an 85 ATAR cause it basically means nothing and anyone can get into any course eventually:)

That is basically it, please anyone give me an opinion on my predicament bcoz I was looking to drop by week 9, but now I am not sure :confused2:

pros clearly outweigh the cons so yeah I would drop it. I knew I was gonna drop a subject by year 12 but I didn't know which one so I did prelims for all my units and then decided. but it seems like you're pretty sure you don't want to do ancient so there's no reason to keep doing it

I was in the same spot as you and dropped Ancient at the beginning of year 12 cause I took ext 2. Looking back I would've liked to have those extra 2 units as a backup. But honestly, if u don't slack around and do regular practice for everything else, drop Ancient now cause it does save time later on. However, if u think it is an easy b6 for you then don't drop it now and see how you cope with the workload. A major reason I dropped it was that I also had no interest in the subject so I really couldn't be bothered and knew I had to dedicate a decent amount of time to do well.
