Depends on your style of study. Do you get burnt out doing the same thing over and over? Then don't start too early, instead start 3-4 months before your exam.
I'd say start familiarising yourself with the exam style early next year. Then you can slowly focus on specific sections and time yourself while identifying any weaknesses.
I'd recommend Medify because it has a really nice website set up that helps you track your progress. Or you could just use the official UCAT practice tests on their website.

It really depends on you as a person but that's what I'd recommend. Good luck :)

if you are doing ucat in y12, ideally first term of year 12 if not start before term 1 year 12 are good times to start to make sure you're not screwing your trials up for last minute ucat cramming.

if you haven't started i would do a diagnostic test rn (i think maybe there are some free ones online) and figure out how cooked you are and decide how much practise you need.

girl honestly some people start WEEKS before ucat begins and get 3100+ so you are not cooked dw

obv don't leave it until then but realistically from now to 3 months before test do like 1 full mock per fortnight and a few subtests per week max

and then increase the intensity of your prep in the last 3 months. there is no hard and fast rule as to how to do this but this is just an example

use medify and medentry. tutoring is largely unnecessary unless you have a lot of money to blow and this tutoring caters to your needs e.g. you can't simulate the test environment at home, you don't understand how the question types work

Your not cooked lmao. Im going to sit it this year in July and I've only started prep now. (Fyi I'm about to start uni as well so its even more work for me)
6 months is plenty... My friend got around 3200 with only two months of preparation.
Use either medify or medentry. I'm using medentry cos most of my friends that used it seemed to get high scores- and its cheaper. U can get a 10% discount here:
So it costs like $310.5 if u get the essentials package (what I got- its more than enough imo)
U cant 'study' for the ucat since its all about skills/aptitude. You prepare for it by honing on specific skills such as comprehension, decision making, reasoning, quick mental maths etc and practicing them repetitively. Think of it as learning to ride a bike. u dont get it on the get go, it takes time and practice to get the hang of it. ~Theres more of this with actual videos once u purchase the essentials package on medentry.
Ive got a timetable of my routine etc but it includes some other stuff. Basically, everyday dedicate 1hr - 1.5hrs to UCAT practice (mock subtests, practice questions, video tutorials) and every 2-3 days do a full mock exam (which is 2hrs) - so for me, I do full mock exams on Wednesday and Sunday. Consistency is key.

I divide my day like this:
8:30 - 11:00 morning session (by 8:30 I mean fully awake etc. start around 9 - 9:30)
2:30pm - 3:15pm Afternoon session: UCAT review (Go through wrong answers and record them/redo etc)
~ 9:00pm - 9:30pm night session: MMI/interview prep

That's my holiday schedule. It'll prolly change once uni starts but I'm being more intensive now since I have the time. If I'm not doing UCAT prep, I'm doing pre-work/study for uni subjects or practicing my instruments. (or eating)

tbh my daily life is like a bot and I barely touch grass now but its either 40°C or raining outside so...
But thats my study plan/timetable sketched in general terms

Hey are you attempting to transfer into undergraduate medicine at WSU, JMP or New Castle? Because I am going to attempt to do that as well. Hopefully WSU, do you know how the process works? I assume you're quite indulged in this and I would love to learn more :D If it doesn't workout I'm going to attempt GRAD MD!

Hi, yep! Those are the undergrad paths I'm going for.
My plan is to sit the UCAT this year in July whilst maintaining a high gpa so that I can apply fir the 2026 intake. If I get in, yay, if not, I'll prepare for the ucat and gamsat in 2026 but if my ucat score isn't good, I'll js focus on gamsat.
From what I can recall, the gpa requirement changes depending on how long you've been in your undergrad degree, but these are only to get interview/mmi offers. I believe wsu gives offers on the basis of 70% interview and 30%ucat and gpa or equivalent. I recommend having a look at the websites and giving the wsu student services a call as it's been a while since I really looked into it. I've js been focused on preparing for uni so my memory on that stuff is a bit fuzzy atm.

Also, are u currently attending usyd? I saw another thread u were in where u mentioned usyd or something. Maybe we can catch up since we're in the same boat.

This is taken directly from the website: https://www.westernsydney.edu.au/future/study/how-to-apply/md-applicants/general-applicants
GWS Academic Requirements
  • Equivalency: IB 37 or higher; OP 1 to 4, GCE of A, A, A* or higher (3 or less A2 subjects)
  • 1 semester or more but less than 1 year undergraduate (4-7 units) GPA = 6.1
  • 1 year or more but uncompleted undergraduate (8-23 units) GPA = 5.9
  • 3 years or more but uncompleted undergraduate (24 units or more) GPA = 5.2
  • Completed undergraduate degree GPA = 5.2
  • Completed undergraduate with Honours degree (Class 1, 2A, 2B and 2d) = no minimum GPA required
  • Completed Graduate Certificate = 6.0
  • Completed Graduate Diploma = 5.7
  • Completed Coursework Masters = 4.9
  • Completed Research Masters = no minimum GPA required
They don't take your ATAR and the GPA requirement decreases as you continue your degree (But you should get it as high as possilbe in order to be competitive. Those are just the bare minimum limits to actually apply. I should also note that WSU gives offers on the basis of 70% interview and 30% UCAT and GPA.

This is all for undergrad entry which is 7years btw. Might as well aim for post grad once your in 3rd year imo. Best of luck!

i did my ucat last year and i just got into unsw and monash med
dont waste all your mocks early and then have nothing to do in the lead up
do 1-2 mocks in these few months, but mostly do practice questions and familiarise yourself with question types and how to answer them
when it comes to april starting gradually accelerating your practice, do 1 mock a week, then every 3 days, then everyday if you haven't ran out
then do not do any study the day before the ucat, just go out with friends or relax and watch a movie

you'll be fine, take it easy, don't burnout and
