Hello all. I am going to be starting school in less than a week and I am wondering how I should study for maths advanced, and what in particular I should focus on. Thanks
Youll be fine, year 11 math adv pretty is piss easywoahh we're getting a lot of new 2026ers
i'm a bit scared for math adv honestly, especially going against everyone who's done accel and choosing ext 1. And i've done nothing during the holidays T-T
even taking notes for solving questions be dodgy, ion think notes are worth takin unless u want to (tho admittedly I vividly remember playing btd6 during class)Hey, from my experience maths advanced is all about practicing and exposing yourself to a variety of question types. To learn the content, I don't recommend taking notes unless it's diagrams, formulas or methods for solving questions. You can learn basic skills using textbook exercises (e.g. Cambridge and Fitzpatrick are pretty good), and once you're confident you should prepare for exams using past papers extensively. Good luck!
CORRECTION: you should take notes in class but don't bother rewriting them
dw, adv math is a lot easier than it sounds as long as u don't stay complacent/don't challenge urself at all. there's no reason you HAVE to lose to someone who's doing accel/doing ext 1.woahh we're getting a lot of new 2026ers

same goes for yr12 if u study hard frYoull be fine, year 11 math adv pretty is piss easy
Maths advanced is a pretty safe subject, as long as you've practised enough and have the skills. There's only so much you can be assessed on, and if you do maths ex1 it'll be a piece of cake. Imo there's no need to have prepared much in advance (no pun intended)woahh we're getting a lot of new 2026ers

about how many hours of study outside of class do you think is needed for ext 1 on say a weekly basis? i found 5.3 really easy last year and would start studying only a few days before my exams but i've never actually revised anything consistently throughout the term so im worried that i'll struggle for maths ext 1 with the same approachMaths advanced is a pretty safe subject, as long as you've practised enough and have the skills. I do think it's necessary to step it up with your study this year, because ext 1 is notably harder than 5.3. During the term I'd say spend at least 3 hrs a week (for both adv and ext 1) on homework and to consolidate content. Start looking at past papers 2-3 weeks before your exam each term because maths isn't really something you can cram in a couple of days, and you'll also need to spend that time on other subjects if you've got an exam block. In those couple of weeks, around 6 hours a week doing practice questions and revision will help you outabout how many hours of study outside of class do you think is needed for ext 1 on say a weekly basis? i found 5.3 really easy last year and would start studying only a few days before my exams but i've never actually revised anything consistently throughout the term so im worried that i'll struggle for maths ext 1 with the same approach
go ahead in diff if you wanna rank high, and for most schools the first term is just year 10 stuff so start functions now as well, everything else is not really a necessary to go ahead, maybe trig if you dont understand the concept of the unit circle (for example only knowing its use in triangles) as you explore identities and radians, if your school did not cover logs in y10 learn that as wellHello all. thank you so much!! those numbers seem very doable for me and aren't as bad as what i was expecting, im definitely going to try to be more consistent with my studying this yearI do think it's necessary to step it up with your study this year, because ext 1 is notably harder than 5.3.
