hi everyone! i know this kind of thread has been posted before, but i'm wanting some advice as someone completing her hsc this year and thinking about studying civil engineering at uni next year.

i had originally just wanted to go to uts, i have a family friend who is studying civil engineering there and she really likes it. i also know about their scholarships, especially for women, and opportunities for internships which would be great work experience.

i recently went to the careers expo and the unsw people told me their main reasons to choose unsw over uts were the fact that they are the number 1 uni in australia for engineering, and that they have a lot of opportunities for women. not sure how i feel about their trimester system though, even if they are getting rid of it. i'm also considering usyd purely because my dad is a civil engineer and went to usyd lol.

does anyone have any advice over which uni they think would be the best? i know that employers now care more about work experience rather than the 'prestige' of having attained a degree from a certain uni, hence uts is mainly gaining my interest because i hear internships are more common there (esp for women)

let me know your thoughts!

then employers might as well employ someone who went to tafe and did some "work experience" lol. they defintely would pick someone from a go8 uni than uts if it weren't for DEI. still even with dei, you're more likely to get a job with a go8 degree than uts, it's literally common sense

Go with your heart. All three universities are accredited for engineering. Sure, UNSW may be techniquely the most prestigous, you should pick the uni which you think you will enjoy the most. You're spot on; internships matter more than where you got your degree from. Additionally, since you are a woman in STEM, there are extra oppurtunities you can get! Go with your heart, QUEEN!
