Hey guys! For prelim eco, what statistics should you memorize to get a 90% + and what statistics would you recommend to memorize for each topic?

Well, I actually don't have any exams because I haven't started year 11, but I was looking over topic 1 and thought I could put my summer holidays to use and gather statistics.Hey, probably depends on your exam brief. What is the format of your upcoming assessment and which sections of the syllabus is it assessing?
Thank you!! I did look over topic 1 & 2 theory and it seems super interesting!! I will take on your advice!!Hey! If anything, please don't worry about memorising stats just yet, because you really need to learn some foundational theory before you need them. The prelim syllabus is much more theoretical than the HSC syllabus. I've checked the new syllabus, and that's still the case. As Ben said, wait until after your first assessment to understand what's required. Remember that prelims is the time to try things out, so there's no need to stress about getting very ahead.
I don't like thinking of it as stats, but rather trends, evidence and context. No amount of stats will get you anywhere near 90%, if you're not showing an overall understanding of economic trends and relevant context. If you absolutely want to, you can have look at RBA snapshots and read some economic/business news to understand the current Australian economic state. That would already put you miles ahead in terms of "stats".
All the best!
Thanks for the advice!! I definitely check out econtools, I saw it on TikTok and was considering it anyways hahaHm, okay I'm not too sure then. I help prepare statistics for Y12 economics students, but I can't recall needing them in Y11 extensively unless the exam brief required it (you might but its been so long).
If I’m being honest, I wouldn’t recommend memorising lots of statistics yet – especially before you’ve seen your first assessment task or exam format.
If you really want to use the holidays productively, I’d focus on:
- wait until you see your first exam brief and the style of questions your teacher sets
- then target a small number of high-value stats that clearly link to those questions
Happy to point you in the right direction later, or you can DM me once you’ve got an assessment notification and I can be more specific. Otherwise I have some statistics dashboards on my site EconTools which are free at the moment that you could check out. Good luck!
