Kingsleys Steakhouse or one of the degustation restaurants populate the expensive end. For good reasonably priced food (and a be seen location) in Civic recommend Italian and Sons or Zen Yai/Thai Lemongrass. There are also some good places in Kingston (and it's a politician/staffer haunt).
Then once it's drinking time that depends on preference. There are some decent cocktail bars; in Civic Muddle and Knightsbridge, in Kingston the Julep Lounge and the Kennedy Room, in Manuka the Kennedy Room. If nightclubs are more your scene then you want to be in Civic, Cube is the gay club. UniPub (top floor), Academy, Mooseheads (upstairs) and ICBM are the big ones. Note that the nightclubs are usually closed/empty Sunday through Wednesday. Thursday is cheap drinks night so expect uni students if you go out.
In Belconnen? No where.
Assume that you'll be at the ABS office in Belcompten so you'll be stuck there for lunch, just go wherever the other work people are going.
For dinner, drinking, etc you want to head to Civic (Canberra City), Manuka and Kingston. Your dinner choices depend how hard you want to smash the corporate card... -
