    Illness/Misadventure process

First let's assume the second ranked student has raw internal of 79. The best exam mark in the school apart from you is say 85. So 79 is moderated (adjusted) to 85. Now your raw internal 86 is 1/3 of the distance between 79 and 100. So your moderated internal will be 1/3 of the distance between...

    Question?

Technically, you cannot "fail" a preliminary course, unless you mean an n-award. Since you say you are doing the HSC course, you cannot have been given an n-award. So, the prel course will have no impact on your atar.

Paper 2 conundrum - any sensible advice or reassurance appreciated! :O

Every writing booklet that arrives in a marking centre MUST be matched to a student. As long as you had your student number on the front, it will be marked, even if you forgot to tick boxes etc.

    Illness/Misadventure launch advice

Option c is used where there is an unaffected component of the exam. Only occurs where there are projects or practicals, or 2 papers like english. Option b is used otherwise, in exams like legal studies, sor etc where there is only one exam. Both these methods are compared to the actual mark...

    Misadventure/Illness

BOSTES prefers to use unaffected parts of an exam since they are more "exam-y" than a school assessment mark. Same thing happens in a language, if you are sick for the speaking exam, they will estimate a mark from the written and listening exams.

    Illness/Misadventure launch advice

A mark for paper 2 will be estimated from your performance on paper 1. You will get the higher of that estimate and your actual mark on paper 2.
  11. B

    Misadventure/Illness

You have to get a form from the school or exam supervisor. Since the problem was in english paper 2, an estimate will be calculated from your paper 1. If your actual mark is higher than the estimate then you keep it. Otherwise the estimate is used. The school assessment is only looked at if you...

    How are my ranks?

Provided your assessment mark is close to the assessment mark of student #1 you will receive a moderated assessment close to the top exam mark (whether yours or hers).

    Am I cold hearted?

The devil is in the detail. "The university will help the students find the course that best suits their needs and aspirations." In other words, UWS will decide what they offer each student. It may just be a place in Arts or Foundation Studies.

    Memory dump method

I think it means you go into an exam and write everything you know about a topic (dump your memory into the answer), in the hope that you might actually write something that answers the question asked in the exam. Not really effective, and you waste a lot of time writing stuff that is irrelevant...
