what would a raw mark of 97 be?
  2. Q

    2U 2015 Discussion Thread

Easiest HSC test ever, apart from a few questions like the area of the triangle it wasn't hard and they gave you almost all the answers.
  3. Q

    Some maths question (MC)

for probability I got 5/8 which is D = 1 - P(no one getting under 10 seconds) = 1 - 3/4 x 5/6 x 3/5 = 5/8 for trig I got 4 but I'm not too sure about it. What you do is find the values where sinx=1 and where tanx=-2. Where these occur the equation will equal zero.
  4. Q

    Is Math really that important?

Depends what you want to study in university and afterwards. If your course requires math or some math courses then you probably need mathematics(general is just everyday math and is basically a joke). If your course doesn't require math and you have no intention of doing something quantitative...

    2015ers Chit-Chat Thread

I really hope the last question of 16 isn't horrible. Also hopefully there aren't any really hard area/integration/volume questions, those can be so hard sometimes
  6. Q

    Need help with two questions

this is how you answer the questions. Every answer a part from C has the option of making the denominator = 0 which you can't have, therefor C is the only possible option.
  7. Q

    Need help with two questions

I think the answer for 7 is c as all the other options create a zero on the denominator which you can't have
  8. Q

    Need help with two questions

    e^lnx = x try it in your calculator :)
  9. Q

How do you prove something is tangetnt to something else?

your 2 lines should be y=x^2(the curve) and y=4x-4(the line you just found)
  10. Q

How do you prove something is tangetnt to something else?

for question 8a it is like the questions when they say prove dP/dt = kP, you just work backwards to find the original equation and then do the question from there for question 8b for get the first derivative and then you use quadratic equation to find the roots(or the discriminant which is the...
  11. Q

How do you prove something is tangetnt to something else?

for the tangent question you just equate the two equations to make x^2-4x+4=0. you then show that the discriminant is equal to 0 which means that there is only one root and therefor one point of intersection which means that the line is a tangent to the curve.

    Textbooks

Math: Math in focus* or Cambridge *if you choose math in focus you MUST use past papers alongside this, nothing beats past papers, but math in focus is good for grasping concepts(the questions in MiF are usually multiple choice and q11-12 in the exam. Cambridge is a better investment though. use...

    HSC 2015 Maths Marathon (archive)

Re: HSC 2015 2U Marathon The population W of Williamtown is increasing exponentially according to the equation W =W0e^0.02 while the population H of Hectorville is decreasing exponentially according to the equation H = H0e^-0.01 If the current populations of Williamtown and Hectorville are 8000...

To drop or not to drop...

If you want to get your cert III from the tafe course and if the subject doesn't take up too much time then you might want to keep it as a back up. Also 5 hours a week per subject is a fair amount of study so I think you'll be alright(or quite well off) when it comes to those.
  15. Q

    2016ers Chit-Chat Thread

I studied more for trials than I have been for my 2u HSC, I'm a little worried :(

  19. Q

    Will these textbooks be enough?

My school is using MiF for extension 1 so I decided to buy the cambridge book as well so that I'm better prepared for tests, will this be good or should I also do past papers as well?
