Year 11 2013 Chit Chat Thread

Nope not this year unfortunately! I'd still like to go to France, possibly on exchange, but maybe after the HSC, so I can go for longer and I won't have the HSC hanging over my head. ;) You're going this year aren't you?

Year 11 2013 Chit Chat Thread

Well, the stuff with clubs & volunteering isn't as much as it sounds, it's only a meeting every two weeks and just organising stuff when there's events planned, and I work in a team too so when the work gets spread out it's really not that much! Badminton is only an hour and a half every week...

Year 11 2013 Chit Chat Thread

Ahh, well I did a lot less than you guys in Year 10. Piano, enviro rep, school yearbook team, a bit of sport during some terms...that's it. Now I do the above (+being assistant editor for school yearbook), Amnesty (with leadership role), video editing stuff for clubs, volunteering and badminton...

Year 11 2013 Chit Chat Thread

I like it as 'Rachael' too actually (it's not my name though ;)) Random question - what extracurricular stuff do you guys do? I know this is a topic that has come up on the forums before but was curious about the rest of the 2014ers...has anyone cut down from Year 10? I'm actually doing more...

Year 11 2013 Chit Chat Thread

Agreed - I'm accelerated in 2 unit maths and at the end of last year, doing my first HSC assessment task - even though it was only 15% - was scary as heck, but after the test I realised it hadn't felt any different; it was just another test and the amount I (+ the rest of my maths class) had...

So what do YOU aspire to do?

    Something creative...beyond that, I don't know.

How do I get myself to study?

Maybe you could try the Pomodoro Technique?

Year 11 2013 Chit Chat Thread

Whoa O_O I'd definitely say write it out in full, though, so you can get used to it and because you might get a picky marker in the HSC. My teacher mentioned that one year they penalised people writing "alt. angles" because "alt." could be considered ambiguous - ridiculous, but yeah, for similar...

    Help with 14 units?

    1. You're going to have to wait a bit to see whether *you* can handle it. In my year group there are quite a few people with 14 units who are handling it fine, others decided to drop because it was too much/they decided what subject they want to drop. Personally, I had 14 units for about two and...

Year 11 2013 Chit Chat Thread

SuchSmallHands: Glad to see another person doing French Continuers, there's barely anyone doing it at my school! I don't really know what I want to do yet. I kind of have an interest in everything. xD

    How are my subjects?

I think it would be a good idea to switch, if you hate Society and Culture. Economics does have a tiny bit of maths, it's just very basic equations but you might find it a bit confusing if you're not doing any Maths at all. How did you go in Year 10 Maths? It's also a logical kind of subject...

How can i write faster in exams?

Have you tried writing slightly slanted? I find that I write faster that way.

Thinking of taking two beginner languages for HSC

Are you studying two languages as electives right now? If not, I'd be inclined to advise against it - you wouldn't be used to it and yes, you can get mixed up (although I suppose it might be easier with languages like French and Indonesian, which are fairly different, compared with French and...

    Chem or ancient?!

Sounds to me like you should do Ancient - you say you think you'll do better in it than Chem, you obviously don't find Chem that interesting and if you do like Ancient better, that will actually make a big difference in the long run because you'll probably put more effort and into it and extra...

Just wanted to say hi! :) How are you finding Year 11 so far? Enjoying all your subjects?

Help! Should I do this subject?

How much your ranking of 3rd will affect your mark will depend on how well the cohort does and how well you do in external exams. You should do a subject if you enjoy it (<- most important) and if you are good at it, and you shouldn't drop just because there are people who you think will do...

stuggling with my year 11 electives

I'd give it at least another few days before you drop. Don't rush into dropping just yet! (e.g. with Chem, see if you actually do struggle with it, not whether you think you will)

    Who's ready for year 11?

It was pretty much what I expected - getting straight to work, and lots of homework and information about how the HSC and exams work for each subject, but otherwise, pretty normal. I did have to drop IPT because of a clash...I should've been told about it way earlier but it meant I got switched...

    maths textbooks

Personally I find Fitzpatrick better at explaining concepts, though Cambridge has harder questions to practise with. I'd say it's good to have another textbook as well.
