If you do science you can pick pretty much pick the same units as medical science student so it's up to you. You mean graduate medicine because it's not a post graduate degree, it's going to be super competitive now since USYD has changed it to MD.

I had no idea about units and it didn't really matter that much. Knowing anything past first year is pretty useless because your preferences change after you have studied for 1 year.

Very thorough but I think most high school students won't be able to understand anything except the first page.

Yeh someone posted the predicted ATAR + UMAT score you needed to get an interview. If you have a lower predicted ATAR you may not be offered main round interviews but if your actual ATAR is enough you will be offered final round interviews (these are in early Jan)

    Med - UNSW or UWS

He is only two years out he wouldn't even be in SET 1 yet how would he be on track into neurosurg? Lawstu I suggest you get your information right before you advise people on the career path to take. Traineeships with RACP is not the same as a senior staff specialist. BPT's easy to get into...

You should be able to get an interview. Medical Rural Bonded Scholarship is quite competitive from what I've heard. One issue with taking on such a scholarship is that it can potentially delay you into entering a specialty training program since you have to fulfill the requirements of the...

So Med Students Online Wiki is wrong for UWS admission? So if it's 100% interview score the more reason for students to start practicing early. I disagree with you saying students only need 1 day to review for the interview. If parents placed more emphasis on academia students with such parents...

    Medical Science to Med

I never said getting a job is completely out of the question but someone with a science degree graduating from UWS has a much lower chance of getting a job in the field than someone from USYD. I have heard this many times from my friends who have undertaken a science degree. This being said...

    Med - UNSW or UWS

Of course. I'm just saying Professors are biased and some prefer to take students from their universities (this is from hearing other people say so). Doing research post degree whilst working week days and some weekends gets tough, so it depends if you're willing to make that sacrifice. Only...

    Med - UNSW or UWS

USYD Dean keeps saying USYD trains specialists. UWS trains GPs. UWS Professors do not have a strong background in research in comparison to USYD and UNSW professors. This means there is less opportunities to get your name on a paper or be involved in research when you study at UWS. Professors at...

According to last year's figures no. But the marks aren't indicative as there are variations between the bell curve year to year. You'll be near the cut-off point on either side who will know until they release offers.

My friend got 99 percentile for UMAT and 99.90 ATAR. No UNSW med offer because he bombed his interview. Don't be complacent go practice interviews.

Do it! Medicine is tedious but if you think acting isn't tedious you are mistaken. It will be worse than medicine but you'll be making a lot more if you break through.

You should be on the cut off point for the interview offers. Interview counts for 2/3 of the entry requirements so as long as you do better than 80% of candidates in the interview you should be fine. I offer interview training 1 to 1 and workshops, for any interested candidates. I've helped...

    UMAT Results

UWS, UNE Students don't understand the importance of interviews and are also naive to the fact that they can do well without training. They also don't realise it's something you can significantly improve in a matter of days to weeks although ideally I would suggest months of training. I am...

Depending on your ATAR both UNSW and UWS are interview offers are possible. If you smash your interview you'll definitely get an offer for medicine. Better start practicing interviews. Usually percentile cut off is around 85% for UWS if you live in GWS. Depends on how many people apply etc.

There is no guarantee. You shouldn't be complacent with a high UMAT score. My friend got 99.90 ATAR and 99% UMAT no offers for UNSW because he flunked his interview. Important 3 components.

    Medical Science to Med

They still look at UMAT (lower than school leaver requirements usually) and marks in your course. You will still need to undertake the interview. Competition should be less but I'm not sure how many they consider for interviews (you will be competing with people in adv sci and med sci). If you...

Congratulations to those that managed to obtain a decent mark. Commiserations for those that didn't do so well. My advice to medicine hopefuls. Get in early into medicine, it will get harder and harder as the years go on (not just for entering medicine but obtaining training positions after...
