How is that? I hold Singapore as a model example of a country which is rich and free market, yet true to its traditions of confucian standards of national interest trumpting individual interest (most benefit to the most people) which is necessary in a country with a large population like China.

It's going to go that way regardless of what happens due to human greed and clashing religious/ethnic tribal interests. The secular Baathists as imperfect as they were, were the only ones who could hold the country together with relative peace.
