    Main Round offers??

iirc, there are 'Accept' and 'Defer' buttons on the UAC offer page. clicking 'accept' takes you to the uni's enrolment site which will then give you further details on accepting and enrolling.

anyone else doing the SRC counter course survey? i'm using it to indulge my hobby of complaining about GOVT.

    Already received an offer..

not unless you rearrange your preferences to put other stuff above your main round offer. (i think that's how it works.)

    Already received an offer..

nope. you'll be considered in the late rounds for all the courses you preferenced above the one you were offered in the main round, regardless of whether you accept or reject your first offer.

    Buying Textbooks (Firstyears)

$20. still a good deal though. the discount is 10% on books so it pays for itself once you've bought $200 worth of books, which doesn't take long, particularly if you're a commerce or science student. (i just borrow my mate's card though, so i didn't have to pay anything)

    how does the timetable work?

no. something similar to this happens at most unis, but not at sydney. our crappy ancient timetable software only allows you to block off times you don't want classes, and it will try to organise your timetable around that. you can block off either a single day, or two periods of up to five...

    Sex lessons for 10-year-olds?

notice that the article doesn't say that the 10-year-olds are going to be learning about date rape, mutual masturbation, pictures of chlamydia, etc. it says that those topics will be covered at some time during the comprehensive program which starts at age 10 and lasts throughout high school...

    Paying Uni Fees

yes, you can do that. however, they assume that whatever you do in first year is what you'll be doing throughout your degree, so to get them to change your payment option in the middle of your degree i guess you'd have to go and talk to someone at the student centre at the start of second year...

    Your feelings towards internationals.

normally it's the tutor or course coordinator's choice how to form groups. sometimes random, sometimes you form your own groups, sometimes it's based on who wants to do which topic.

    History

normally you'd do two HSTY subjects in first year, so why not do both the medieval course (semester 1) and the 20th century course (semester 2)? it doesn't matter too much what you do in first year anyway - whichever junior units you do, you're still able to pick any of the senior units, so you...

    cumbo joining with main campus?!

if there's not enough space on main campus, why do they want to move all the cumbo students there?

HECS fee + Bridging courses qns

as of 2009 enrolments, all uni students will enrol in a commonwealth-supported place (CSP). under this system, you contribute a certain amount to the cost of your education, and the government pays the rest. this system is called HECS - higher education contribution scheme. you have a choice...

    Choosing subjects

Re: how does the timetable work? what degree are you doing? some degrees have all or almost all of their first year subjects set, and you won't have to do any thinking at all. other degrees (arts in particular) have no set subjects and you'll have to spend a fair bit of time thinking about your...

    enrolment

if you can't enrol yourself then you'll have to get someone else to do it for you on the day. afaik usyd doesn't give you any other options, which is a bit mean but also makes life a lot easier for the university. can you get a parent/sibling/uncle/cousin/grandparent/anyone to do it for you? as...

    Travelling 1hr+ to uni

i live in the blue mountains, and my train ride is roughly 1.5 hours each way (give or take a bit) + maybe 5-15 minutes to bus or train/walk to usyd. it isn't fun, but it's bearable, since the blue mountains line has comfy trains that aren't too crowded. i can't concentrate enough to study on...

Results and Predictions (Semester 2 2008)

i think that if they couldn't find his exam paper, they'd look up the exam attendance records (taken from the attendance slips) and check whether or not he was there. but someone must have stuffed up somewhere along the line so maybe they forgot to do that? or something? who knows.
