Converting numbers in the easy part, doing the operation is a little harder ie division, subtraction, but it's not that hard really. I gotta remember which gates are which :p. IEEE numbers will be a little harder.

You could still get over 80, but would have to work really hard in standard and the VET course, as they are your low scalers.

Ezzy, you can't bring a calculator into the SDD exam, and yes showing working is compulsory for full marks to be awarded, look at the CSSA trial marking guidelines.

edit: scores 85/85/76/70/53/30 so average 66.5 so 55% average.

The marks could depend on his school assessments, they might be a little easier than other schools, not saying they are.

About how say, UNSW allow for 5% for each course dedicated for the EAS scheme ppl, if these fill up, can those under the scheme be part of the normal uni enrolment?

Cramming is fitting the most important things in the last minute/hour/day etc to get maximum marks for minimum effort/time, well that's how I see and do it :p
