Just wondering how one makes notes for a related text. With movies, do you just watch the film once, then again making notes, then try to relate? With poems, deconstruct, then relate? With books, I have no idea. How does everyone here make notes on their related texts?

Is there ever such a thing as too much figurative language, imagery or symbolism (in a creative writing piece)?
