this happened to me for a while. in the end i used a totally different method. since a<c, a^2 < c^2 therefore 5a^2 + 3b^2 + c^2 < 3a^2 + 3b^2 + 3c^2 < 3((a+b+c)^2 - 2(ab+bc+ca) < 3(a+b+c)^2 (since a, b, c > 0) < 3 < 1 is this valid?
