re: HSC Chemistry Marathon Archive
1. The HSC will never specify Tc-99m as the isotope you're required to write about. You have a choice of industrial/medical isotopes to study.
2. Tc-99m is an isotope used overwhelmingly in medicine, it's not really used in industry. So it's placement in...
I wasn't expecting entry into law so I asked a lot about internal transfer at UNSW's info day. According to the people at the law stall, a WAM of low 70s is typically competitive, so even of you don't quite hit 80 you could still get the transfer.
re: HSC Chemistry Marathon Archive
That's the correct answer. I posited that particular question because sometimes people think they have to double the value for Ag when that's not the case. But it didn't catch either of you so well done!
re: HSC Chemistry Marathon Archive
If you don't get why it has to be negative I think you might misunderstand the table of standard potentials. It's a table of standard reduction potentials, you're describing a different, equal but opposite, process when you describe oxidation. It would make...
re: HSC Chemistry Marathon Archive
Nope, this answer is incorrect (was on tapatalk earlier and couldn't see the response). Can any 15ers pick up on what's wrong with this?
Chemistry marathon 2015
Which isn't something you're required to do in this course. Your questions would probably be a lot more relevant if you took them from past papers until you're more familiar with how the HSC phrases its questions.
re: HSC Chemistry Marathon Archive
No calculation based questions here yet, I'll give you guys an easy one
Calculate the E0 value of the following electrochemical process:
Cu(s) + 2Ag+(aq) -----> 2Ag(s) + Cu^2+(aq)
re: HSC Chemistry Marathon Archive
I'm too terrified to buy my raw marks and responses. I'd pick them apart and hate myself over every tiny mistake. But it's great that you have yours for reference purposes here.
re: HSC Chemistry Marathon Archive
Lol yes, and then other people joined them and they terrified people who had talked about dehydration to ethene haha
re: HSC Chemistry Marathon Archive
I did, it's in the brackets. You could talk about any legitimate use, which is what I was saying for like five pages of fighting haha
re: HSC Chemistry Marathon Archive
Yeah I think so, hilarious shit storm entailed on BoS as to whether or not you absolutely had to talk about ethanol as a fuel and a solvent (asked my teacher after he marked our year's HSC paper, you didn't)
Chemistry marathon 2015
Almost all of the 15ers on this thread have proven that they're not able to properly answer acidic environment questions yet. It seems redundant to be practicing questions when people are straight out making things up that aren't at all correct because they don't know...
re: HSC Chemistry Marathon Archive
Clearly the 15ers aren't far at all into acidic, for them to have any chance answering these questions well the questions should really stay in POM.
Assess the environmental impact of the lead acid cell or dry cell (2 marks)
Chemistry marathon 2015
Can we maybe just stick to POM questions? It's clear that some people haven't properly started acidic environment yet and so their answers will be way off just because they're not up to that point in the course.
I looked over this course today and it's actually quite good. It has all of the important chemistry from the HSC without the bullshit. It also has a little more depth on some concepts (such as gas laws) that the HSC course glossed over a little more
The UNSW physics bridging course is not really based at all on HSC physics to be honest. It's based more on Fundamentals of Physics, which is sort of an introduction to 1A. Maybe you could consider taking Fundamentals in sem 1 and 1A in sem 2 if you didn't to HSC physics?
re: HSC Chemistry Marathon Archive
Oh okay, I thought you guys were moving really fast! (This time last year I was on PoM still). We'll save questions on the second half of acidic and monitoring and management for later on in that case
