    NO accommodation

I remember ANU guaranteeing accommodation if you get an offer and apply by Jan 20. I guess they going back on their word now? :(

I got this email from them even though I did not receive an offer from ANU (third pref).

    Mini Laptop vs Writing Notes...?

Damn UNSW and their free wi-fi :( Anyway as what the above post says, you don't really need it for commerce. I will be getting one for law as I plan to study in uni and write notes.

Extra studying apart from Uni commitments

Yes, I agree with this. OP, you have 15 hours, so I'm assuming you are doing just commerce or commerce/law? As a guideline to get distinctions, you should spend approx. 2-3 hours a day studying. Also, if you are really into investment, maybe take up a finance major that would teach you the...

2U Maths as an assumed knowledge for Economics?

lol ok mate, whatever floats your boat.

    Netbooks for uni

Wow mate, that's awesome for $370. And yes, the only program I will be using is Microsoft Word. I just want to type my lectures on it and not be distracted by any features of the netbook. My vaio would be my main laptop where I put my movies on it. I was thinking of an MSI wind, but that's...

    usyd enrolment

Wow I wished I had a brother in the same university, that would be great. Anyway, I do find the course handbooks a bit confusing on what specific subjects to do for each semester, particularly with a double degree +transferring in. So far I've figured it out, so all's good.

Ouch how much petrol are you burning? Isn't it cheaper to fly?

    Which to do?

This is subjective, but I think B Commerce at UNSW with a double major in accounting and finance would be good. I read from the other post that you like International Studies? You can do a double major in Int Studies and accounting, if you like. Or do a double degree, Commerce/Arts. USyd has...

University Timetables: Basic Rules for Freshmen

Why do you say that? Tutorials are usually based on last week's lectures. So having it after this week's lectures doesn't matter. I actually would suggest having tutorials at the later end of the week because there might be hand-ups for tutes (sucks if you have to hand it in on monday)

2U Maths as an assumed knowledge for Economics?

Firstly, I transferred to USyd, you don't have to swear Troll. Secondly, you don't have to insult USyd. Renovations to the university is a good thing and there's nothing wrong with it Thirdly, it does involve a 'very small' degree of mathematics, you don't use the calculator for everything...

2U Maths as an assumed knowledge for Economics?

Will you be doing mandatory first year economic courses in uni or are you planning to major in economics in uni? If you are majoring in economics, I think you should take the bridging course. But if you are not majoring in economics or finance, I don't think you should. I did VCE so I don't...

    Netbooks for uni

Hi, I'll be doing law this year and I am interested to get a netbook for typing notes in uni. I just bought a Sony Vaio but because it's a bit heavy, I'm too lazy to bring it. Below are my 'ideal' requirements for it: - <$350 (broke after buying laptop) - Only Windows OS, no linux -...

    Speed reading for law

Hey guys, thank you very much for responding. Just another question, when you are doing your readings before the class, when reading it for the first time do you make notes? Or do you make notes after the class?

moleskine vs filofax vs el cheapo diary/planner

How much are Moleskine diaries? I used Kikki K diaries before. They are pretty good, leatherbound and plenty of space to write on. I used them for two years and usually would buy them in January. They would be clearing their diaries and offer a 50% discount. Not bad for $15.

    After transfer and previous university

The first thing to do is make sure you are not enrolled for any courses in the coming semester. For UNSW, you have to fill up a form. Whereas for other universities, you may have to contact your relevant faculty to inform them that you are discontinuing your degree. It really depends which...

Possibility of Distinction avg in 1st year

Distinction average is achievable for commerce subjects. But HD average is really hard. The highest WAM for a semester I have ever gotten is 82.5. Mate, if you're doing a single degree, you should do a double major. Accounting/management, Accounting/marketing. Anyway, I really like commerce, I...

    usyd enrolment

Maybe you should make a trip down to USyd instead of doing it over the phone. If you defer do they give your spot to someone else in the second round?

    Actuarial/Accounting or Actuarial/Finance?

Not everyone wants to do law. And main round offers are already out so if the OP got in law, he would have said so. I would do actuarial/finance. I have a friend in Melb Uni and I once heard her say that actuarials can do whatever accountants do. Not sure how much truth there is in that...
