i'm not entirely sure about the hsc itself but 4u is considerably harder than 3u in terms of content (imo)
edit: this isn't to scare you i'm sure you can do it but it's harder
4u being difficult and doing competitions were unrelated, sorry for not making that clear

no offence but imo it's not (only) your teacher's fault you failed, it's yours (sorry, slightly controversial)
imo you shouldn't rely on your teacher and if you can tell he isn't teaching properly, learn the stuff yourself
ngl i couldn't wrap my head around that way of explaining the derivative
I personally just thought of 1 point gradient/ steepness and didn't run into any issues
maths ext 1 is defo a much bigger workload than advanced but doing it in yr9 should be fairly doable if you study hard
anyway if you wanna avoid stress don't be like me and study 3 days before trials
benefits should be self explanatory but the negatives are stress mostly
