Hmm, maybe in later years. I think this assignment is just for us to make our own opinion - and then to back some of it up with sources, or argue against something. It is a first year course, after all. but point noted

    English Essay

True, but time is... not exactly on my side. It's due Monday. And it's 1750 words, and three articles. We have to mention at least two - that's in the assignment. However, I haven't read my three articles - one of them is called "Imagery and Method" so, I may, hopefully, find some good stuff...

    English Essay

Hmm, I'll be sneaky then and give easier examples like... "You then whose judgement the right course would steer, / Know well each ancient’s proper character " which can be paraphrased as 'if you want to judge correctly, or, on "the right course", know each character well'. And then say...

So keep an undertone, but answer the question mainly. mmkay Also, I'm not sure if "I don't understand this section of the text" is good enough to make as a point. So as stated: Some few in that, but numbers err in this, Ten censure wrong for one who writes amiss; A fool might once himself...

    English Essay

Re: The Thread that never Ends So you mean something like: "The end result is... *talk about whether the good overpowers the bad*" just at the end, but not say... at the beginning? Or do I sneakily put it in and say something like "However, there are detriments to Pope's preference of...

    English Essay

Re: The Thread that never Ends I dunno, I can't help but think I'm not answering the question: "What does he gain and what does he lose...?" That's why I'm thinking it suffices to make contestable points for what he gains and loses. So like that non-clarity thing, example 1 would be lines 5-8.

Re: The Thread that never Ends dammit, should've gone to consultation on friday afternoon and asked him about this. All I know is that when someone asked him in class if they needed to make a judgement call, he said 'No, I just want you to argue what he gains and what he loses - and convince...

Re: The Thread that never Ends But it answers the question. gah, conflicting perspectives :( Argument sounds familiar. But wouldn't I be 'arguing', well say... one of my tentative points to make is that writing in poetry means that he sometimes has to invert word order and exclude words to...

    English Essay

Re: The Thread that never Ends Are you sure I need to pass judgement? I feel I'm losing valuable word count if I have to put my own opinion in. And Blue Suede, eh - well, it's justified praise. Less heinous, I suppose :p

    English Essay

In An Essay on Criticism, Pope presents his views about literary criticism, but unlike Addison and Johnson, he does so in the form of poetry. What does he gain and what does he lose by doing it in this way?

Uni courses: Commerce or international studies. help?

Well it depends what you want to pursue. If you take Comm/Maths, where do you want a job? Do you want to pursue whatever your Commerce major is? Or whatever your Maths major is?

So for those thinking of doing B Actuarial Studies next year...

Yes, if you take Actuarial by itself. If you take Actuarial/Adv Maths, different story. Read that handbook entry, and I think you'll find you can't take a second major.

So for those thinking of doing B Actuarial Studies next year...

Stats as a second major in Actuarial Studies? You can't do that, I believe. If you take a second degree, you take one major from each - iirc.
