Possibly - new versions of programming languages come out very often which makes a bit of stuff redundant. I wouldn't buy any books on programming imho.

I played WoW for 2 months during my HSC - dropped my MX2 marks by 30% but who its better than burning out so who really gives a shit? I suck a dick at studying and hate exams so I really cbf with marks and find I am enjoying myself alot more than these 99+ nerds
