Rudd's $42 billion 'nation building' plan

I will be sure to look at a great deal of different economic theories but as Hawkeye showed your argument is full of holes. I am completely open to new economic ideas and to learning a lot more about the seemingly endless complexities of economics - i follow no theory dogmatically but I see no...

Rudd's $42 billion 'nation building' plan

We are talking about Australia whose only real economic problem is our exports diminishing as a result of lower global demand - that lack of demand is being suplemented by government which is preventing mass human misery. If we were to talk about America... Regulation is the solution to the...

Rudd's $42 billion 'nation building' plan

Hawkeye I dont believe stagflation is a problem in the Australian economy. I think that since the 80's our markets generally have become sufficiently competitive to mean that cost push inflation (inflation caused by rising input costs) has largely been minimal. That means our only inflation...

Rudd's $42 billion 'nation building' plan

government is part of the market!!! And by giving it to consumers they can determine what industries are efficient and inefficient.. But that first sentence is clearly ridiculous. The Government could pay for people to dig holes and fill them up again (to quote Keynes) which would clearly...

Rudd's $42 billion 'nation building' plan

?? Btw Sdent the only part of what you said that is remotely correct is that some industries are inefficient and shouldn't be subsidised. Other than that its a collection of very bizarre comments.

Rudd's $42 billion 'nation building' plan

Infrastructure spending takes longer to implement but you are right to think that infrastructure is a better use of the money IMO. But the payments arent pointless by any stretch. As I explained before it keeps people in jobs.

    Australian Politics

Im not sure what his plan is but I am sure he has a plan Lentern. Turnbull is taking a HUGE risk which will either make or break him with this stimulus package thing. Poor timing with the December retail figures showing unequivocally that the first stimulus package did have the desired effect.

Rudd's $42 billion 'nation building' plan

Craven, the idea is that when spending decreases in the private sector the government should suppliment that decrease with an increase in public expenditure. One persons spending is anothers income so if spending drops businesses' incomes drop so they lay off staff. Those unemployed staff then...

    The Great Men of History

Serious answer? Truly influential changes, whether in a democratic system or not, require a large (or significantly powerful) portion of society to be behind such changes. Individual can (and do) influence society to a certain extent and can lead them in certain directions to bring about...

Do you think that a second stimulus package is needed to boost our economy?

Interest rates have got some going yet and so do the automatic stabilisers. Bringing forward infrastructure and other spending now as well as a stimulus package should be enough to avoid a prolonged recession. Considering our foreign debt and budget balance we are well placed for further...

Have your political views changed over time?

You should have taken economics. But I agree that there are many things taught in economics that people really should know and be taught at High School. In terms of me - I'd say I am more toward the centre than my parents. I believe a well regulated capitalist system in the framework of a...

    Israel–Gaza conflict

FFS. That is a ridiculous over simplification that completely ignores the history of the region. As I have said before - this situation is like a guy banging on your apartment door threatening to kill you. It wouldn't be pleasant. Except actually it was his apartment that you just strollled...
