it depends if i get a job, and where it is: - don't get a job -> honours in applied maths/stats - gets a job -> CFA (finance), IAA exams (actuarial) or MBA in Finance (consulting)

You can..but because Mac degrees are so specialised, it's unlikely you'll have many subjects credited. You'll have to start over again. Hahaha. I still plan to do some actuarial subjects (like ct8 financial economics)...Maths doesn't teach any stochastic calculus to 4th yr (with a prereq in...

computing is really really useful. learning C in 1st yr will place you in good stead for future computing courses.

    Maths with computing

In 1st yr, you don't need to study that consistently and rate urself based on hrs of study. ideally, you should 2-3 days worth of preparation of the material before each quiz to catch up and 1-2wks to revise for the final. for those doing 2nd yr maths in engineering/science, there is...

    FinSoc

It's a constituent society - you are automatically a member if you are doing a Finance major.

    Maths with computing

Yes, that's pretty close to the mark...I think it's meant to be the Advanced Science program in Mathematics and Computing. I don't think it would fit into the combined degree - it's better off doing either computer science or applied mathematics (which has numerical computing subjects).

    financial economics or economics

It would make it difficulty to fit in. A bridging course is a start. I still maintain that it's a waste of time doing 2 of almost the same majors (in the eyes of employers) - finance & financial econ.

    financial economics or economics

Being a Jehovah's Witness is a liability in the real world. You can't do maths so don't even think of investment banking. Good Commerce majors are actuarial studies, finance and economics.

    BCom/BSc first year subjects

Discrete mathematics involves a bit of 3u probability...which is usually quite okay. A lot of 1st yrs fail Discrete Mathematics because most of them are dumbass Computer Science students. As long as you do the tute questions, you should be fine - it's fairly straightforward stuff. If it was...

    financial economics or economics

My little rant: BCom/BEc is a stupid degree; it's just like a 4-yr Commerce degree. You should choose a combined degree that expands your knowledge with areas that complement one another, rather than do almost the same thing over and over again. eg. Finance and Computer Science is pretty...
