    CADETSHIPS 2012 Discussion Thread

Re: how long does commerce degree (cadetship) take? I have no idea sorry.. I was hoping whether you could give me a few tips about performing well in cadetships, given your prior experience. I recently accepted a general insurance cadetship at Zurich Financial Services, will begin in January...

A Day In The Life of a Law Student

One of the greatest things about UNSW Law is open book exams. It saves people like me who are horrendous at memorising cases/statutes. I also love the fact that law lectures are ALWAYS from 9-11, 11-1, 2-4, 4-6. The consistency makes me happy, because it means you can get 2 day time tables even...

    USYD vs UNSW!

Lol it's a picture of all the first year Actuarials. Though, there are a few second years there as well :S

what is a good combination among these commerce majors?

Re: B commerce vs B commerce/B economics The most important part is because it extends your degree by a year, it gives you two opportunities to apply for internships; second year and third year. Also, it gives you an extra year to improve your work experience in relevant fields and build...

    CADETSHIPS 2012 Discussion Thread

Re: how long does commerce degree (cadetship) take? I have no idea sorry.. Sorry about butting in. Generally, at the end of the cadetship you are immediately offered a graduate position within the firm. So, you do not need to go through the application process, rather it is an automatic acceptance.

    Quantitative Risk(UNSW) vs Financial Maths + Stats(USyd)

I was very close to transferring into QR last year. I did MATH1081, MATH1251 AND ACTL1001 at the same time, realised that if I ever did that much math again I'd probably kill myself. Then I actually looked at the plan and realised it wasn't anything special in any case so I chose to transfer...

    Quantitative Risk(UNSW) vs Financial Maths + Stats(USyd)

95+ for both 3u/4u is not really a high entry bar for a course that is "invitation only". In any case, if you actually look at the plan it's a fancily named finance/math degree with an honours year shoved on at the end. The only course that QR uniquely offers is MATH2881 which, from what I've...

    Co-op scholarhip

I don't know about the quality of the B IT program, but I do know that B IT Co op is the co op with the most dropouts.

    Quantitative Risk(UNSW) vs Financial Maths + Stats(USyd)

Half the world does QR, it's not really a prestigious or difficult to enter course. It's the course that people who couldn't get into Commerce/Law go into. If you were serious about mathematics, you would do a regular science degree majoring in pure mathematics. It gives you more flexibility...

    BCom/BA orrrrr BCom(International) at UNSW??

Comm international screws up your Schedule for applying for internships and whatnot. Even though it is an extra year over commerce, it is actully more difficult to arrange internships and graduate jobs. as an example, say you are a comm international student going overseas to china for a...

    Actuarial Studies...

TBH: You make life a lot easier when you study an easier major like finance or accounting. In any case, you learn most of IB and MC on the job, so the numerical benefits you get from Actuarial will become irrelevant as you gain more experience. I would seriously consider doing law, it's a great...

    B Commerce/B Science (Advanced Mathematics) @UNSW VS B Dental Science @ CSU??

Just do dent, good money and easy lifestyle.

Is it true that UTS business school is absolutely crap?

IB/MC prepares you best for a future career. MC, especially, McKinsey is known as CEO factory and IB gives you really good business experience, which lets you move into other career paths at a higher position as opposed to a grad grunt e.g. partner at a law firm.

    CADETSHIPS 2012 Discussion Thread

Not necessarily. I know the Zurich Financial Servies cadetship pays your uni fees; albeit for only the 2 years the program runs.

    Actuarial Studies...

UNSW if you are unsure about Actuarial, because the B. Comm structure lets you transfer out. Mac if you're sure that you are becoming an Actuary because their course is far better. Wish I could do the B. Actuarial Course... (I think it was ~98.5 but could definitely be above 99)

Please help me pick out a uni course :)

Just do Comm/Eng majoring in Actuarial. Lots of maths, and you can go anywhere in the business world. You also get the practical elements in engineering.

    Hardest Degree in University?

Of course there is no single degree that everyone would find difficult. From this perspective, the subjective view is correct. Nonetheless, looking at problems in life from this point of view is pointless. Humans come in all shapes and sizes with their own idiosyncrasies. As such, attempting to...

    CADETSHIPS 2012 Discussion Thread

Does anyone know where all the cadetships disappeared? I know back in 2008, a far bigger range of companies offered cadetships. e.g. Zurich, Westpac, UBS, BNP Paribas as well as all the Big 4/other audit firms I know the GFC hit, but I can't see cadets being a significant expense for any of...
