Argument of a function - what?

It's because you're finding the point of which the tangent touches the curve. By subbing in y = x^2 into the equation of the tangent, you find out the x-values of where the line is a tangent to the curve. It's just like how you use simultaneous equations to figure out where two graphs intersect...

    English Advanced v. Standard

Definitely advanced. Like what BLIT said, the aligning is terrible for standard and its much harder to get a Band 6 for standard than it is advanced.

    Reliable measurements of force

Hey guys, So I have a physics assignment and part of it is me required to perform my own experiment. Basically, what I planned to do was drop an egg from different heights and see how as height increased the force would also increase. My way of measuring the force was to observe how the...

    Yr 11 Subject Selection

Go with 14 units, and that way if you think that the workload is too high and you don't particularly enjoy MX1, you could drop it. As for the decision between business/eco/PDH choose the two subjects you would enjoy the most i.e. if you've found yourself enjoying commerce and not so much PDH...

Where do you find the syllabus?

You can find the syllabus here: http://www.boardofstudies.nsw.edu.au/syllabus_hsc/ The syllabus tells you the content that you'll be covering during the preliminary and HSC course. It's basically a guideline that tells you what you're going to be examined on. As for the information, like I said...

    Equation of Tangent

    Given that the gradient of the tangent to the curve at that particular value of x is 14, dy/dx = 14 Therefore, 6x^2 + 24x + 18 = 14 6x^2 + 24x + 4 = 0 Now solve for x

    Series - Limiting Sums

The answer says 132m, but what you got was also my conclusion so either we're both wrong or the answer's wrong. I'm more-so leaning to the latter.

    Series - Limiting Sums

Hello! Q: A ball is dropped from a height of 12m. On the first rebound, it rises to a height of 10m. At subsequent rebounds it rises to a height equal to 5/6 of that which it previously attained. Calculate the total distance through which the ball moves before coming to rest. Thank you :)
