NSW to dump UAI! New Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR)

If you're aiming to transfer between university courses, this shouldn't affect you - your target GPA should be exactly the same.

ATAR + subject scalings = confusion?

Completing the Extension 1 course will make the content of the 2U course seem easy as pie - so your 2U mark will improve even if you don't finish Extension 1. You've nothing to lose by keeping it, but once you drop it you can't pick it up again.

i dont get the atar thing

They apply in exactly the same way that they would have applied to UAIs.

ATAR advantages NSW people going interstate

It's also possible that UAIs given to students in previous years have been slightly too low when compared with their interstate counterparts, disadvantaging NSW students, and the ATAR is an attempt to recalibrate NSW with the rest of Australia to level the playing field again. Who knows? :)

    About HSC Plus

Yes, it applies to those courses. It applies to every course not in the 'excluded' list, including combined courses not in that list.

    Accelerants and ATAR

The short answer is that accelerants are in exactly the same position as everyone else, so you've nothing to worry about. See this post about the Year 7 thing as well as this related thread.

NSW to dump UAI! New Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR)

The Northern Territory is combined with South Australia and then both are treated as a single entity. A particular ATAR attained by students from different states doesn't mean that the students are equally smart or have mastered the same content - it just means that, for tertiary admission...

Students Against Scaling - Post Here!

I think I suggested it was a useful way of thinking about what happens, but it's not what actually happens. The threads linked to by helper explain the process, and you can try it out yourself here.

    Quick Pseudocode Question

Check out the stickied thread on algorithms - there's a great pseudocode guide there with most of the major control methods and solutions to typical algorithm problems.

They don't mean anything weird by it. They're just trying to emphasise that your marks in Year 7 and Year 10 won't have any impact on your ATAR.

Request for scaled aggregate from UAC

standard english - raw mark to aim for

The two courses are scaled exactly the same and have been since 2001. The same raw mark in Standard and Advanced will become the same scaled mark. There are plenty of threads about this. Make sure you don't confuse 'scaling' for UAI/ATAR purposes with 'aligning' for Board of Studies...

Implications of ATAR on those repeating year 12.

There will be no practical consequences for students who are repeating Year 12 or who are accumulating courses over a number of years. Your ATAR will rank you against the age cohort of students who were in Year 7 five years ago irrespective of the fact that you were in Year 7 six years ago...

Request for scaled aggregate from UAC

Nada. Andrew Stanton even called me last night about the ATAR thread, but he doesn't seem to be writing any letters... I will send them a short note about it.

NSW to dump UAI! New Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR)

Re: NSW to dump UAI! You are still ranked against NSW students only. Students from each State are only ranked against their own State. The difference is that ranks will be directly comparable between States - that is, 99.95 in NSW will mean exactly the same as 99.95 in Victoria, etc - and the...

NSW to dump UAI! New Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR)

Re: NSW to dump UAI! NSW is currently the only State to report ranks of 100. The ranks in every other State max out at 99.95. (Except Queensland which uses a completely different system.) In NSW, ranks of 99.975 or above are rounded up to 100, whereas in other States they're truncated to...

NSW to dump UAI! New Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR)

Re: NSW to dump UAI! Essentially, yes. If you want to get really technical about it - there is a small change to the School Certificate reference cohort used to convert percentiles based on scaled aggregates to the final ATAR - but most people aren't going to understand what that means, so...

Re: NSW to dump UAI! Hi guys Yes, it's official. The announcement concerning this change will be made tomorrow. It was inadvertently leaked by the media. It's best if you just think of it as a name change. There are a few extremely minor and technical alterations but they won't have...

Correction - I actually sent it on 5 May 2009 - so they still have a week left.
