    Homosexuality in Australia

Sentiment and sensibilities for religious tradition have gotten a lot of people killed over the years. You don't have the right to not be offended.

    Homosexuality in Australia

I don't think gays would want Christians to conduct their ceremonies.

    Homosexuality in Australia

It's an action, a symbolic one as much as it is harmless. If you get offended by a symbolic action, then that really is your problem, isn't it?

No, that's what he's saying. I shouldn't do it because it would offend Christians. Gays shouldn't get married because it offends their sense of the holiness of marriage. Well, bugger that.

    Homosexuality in Australia

I don't find marriage to be holy. Does that mean I shouldn't get married because it might offend Christians who DO find it holy? Why do Christians have a monopoly on marriage when it wasn't theirs to begin with? Excuse me while I go and desecrate a copy of the bible.

Afghan women: be sexually obedient to your husbands or starve

Light and offbeat is a misnomer. This is mostly a forum for individual pieces of news, rather that overriding "issues". If this thread was about treatment of women under Islam in general, it'd be in NCAP.

What are the things that bothers you at USYD?

I was more thinking that if there was more parking it'd be less arse-rapingly expensive :( I did notice that there are free parks in Codrington St.

Some are born gay, some achieve gayness, and some have gayness thrust upon them

When it has much less influence over public policy, then gays can stop hating the Church for hating them.

Some are born gay, some achieve gayness, and some have gayness thrust upon them

Why not? The Church thinks they're inhuman, malformed and deviant.

Marriage - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Have a read yourself. It's pretty enlightening, especially since the institution of marriage itself predates recorded history (and, by extension, Christianity).

Should women be allowed to serve in the infantry?

Yep. That, however, is not necessarily an issue when diving, as it's not hugely exertive (at least not in comparison to, say boot camp haha). And to a certain extent, as I mentioned with breathing, training can overcome shortcomings with lung capacity (which can actually be a hindrance when...

    Homosexuality in Australia

Except for the fact that marriage did not have its basis in a religious ceremony, and religion (specifically Judaic religions in this context) didn't get involved until like the 12th century or something.

Should women be allowed to serve in the infantry?

True about the lung capacity, but that becomes less of a problem with training. Physical ability to handle depth and pressure, however, you can't really train for. And re: buoyancy - that's why divers are heavily weighted.

Should women be allowed to serve in the infantry?

And I don't know what the situation is in the US, but in the Australian navy, women can't do clearance diving. I'm not sure there is a reason that makes a whole lot of sense, except for the danger involved - women are actually better suited to deep-sea work than men, as our higher body fat...
