    Rudd to build broadband network

That's a pretty shit idea, but it does touch on another idea: wireless broadband. I actually suspect this will be what Telstra uses to compete, since a) they plan to build it anyway, b) you don't need to lay down cables, c) they need it (4G) to stay competitive with mobile phones anyway. Not to...

    Rudd to build broadband network

Worst case scenario: NBN is filtered (I still strongly doubt it), Telstra builds a rival network because of the competition, Telstra campaigns on the rival network's freedom to win customers, everybody wins.

    Rudd to build broadband network

Um, the government isn't creating an ISP. They're basically laying down cables. You can't fucking filter cables (especially not if you don't have the appropriate legislation). Use your brain, Schroe. steve: Yes, I'd like to see Telstra build a rival broadband network, too. And they will. But...

are you rich? if yes, you're automatically a liberal voter.

I think that's a bit excessive, but yeah I'm not terribly enamoured by their piss poor performance so far.

are you rich? if yes, you're automatically a liberal voter.

Well there's also the fact that we're one of the richest countries in the world per capita. You know, in terms of money... ;) We're about 10th richest per capita (amongst all the Scandinavian states) when you exclude microstates and Gulf states (wildly uneven wealth distribution)...

Virus spreading around (Is it true????) O__o

Wrong. It correctly activated on April 1st, just as it has about 3 or 4 times before. It was never going to "blow up: on April 1st, just activate new virus code. The new code will take probably 2 weeks to reach all infected computers, at which point it will be slightly more powerful than before...

    Australian economy defies logic

I don't think so. As those articles point out, even after Rudd's 2 stimulus packages, revised budgets, falling tax revenue, and lender guarantees, we are still "only" at 10% of GDP in terms of debt. Ideally no debt would be lovely but it's certainly worth keeping things in perspective whatever...

    Australian economy defies logic

Australia has the 2nd lowest level of government debt in the world (at 10% once Rudd's stimulus packages go through) and our government debt (bonds) is the most sought after in the world (compare with the horrible performance of America, Japan, and Britain's bonds). World-Beating Australian...

I am not repeating your malodourous ideology on here!

are you rich? if yes, you're automatically a liberal voter.

That's a common misconception. It was seemingly mildly true before the resource boom, but hasn't held much weight since. In fact, it appears the recession is having the opposite effect - people coming (back) to Australia because the economy is still good here. Especially true for New Zealand...

are you rich? if yes, you're automatically a liberal voter.

Rudd is actually against civil unions for same-sex couples (though admirably is also against their discrimination) so I wouldn't praise him too much in that area. Rudd shouldn't be giving cash handouts. I've come to see that as a mistake. I'm all for infrastructure stimulus because we get...

are you rich? if yes, you're automatically a liberal voter.

You should probably start paying attention then. Although it's true that in Australia, a lot of the reason to support Labour is to maintain the status quo rather than enact new legislation and policies - i.e. prevent Libs from getting in and eroding basic welfare safety nets like healthcare...

    Australian economy defies logic

Interestingly, the Australian sharemarket has now risen so much that it is in positive territory for the year (i.e. higher than it was when 2009 started). Hopefully it lasts. Aussie dollar rises to 3-month high; shares seen up | The Australian

    Australian economy defies logic

Um, our low dollar is one of the major factors in Australia posting a trade surplus and avoiding negative GDP growth right now. And yet you want it to rise?
