I'd say try Higher maths since I think you can drop down in the first couple of weeks if you find it too hard anyway. This way you will know for sure that higher maths was an error But I've also heard that the standard maths course is challenging in itself

Go to the selective school. As already said, if you maintain your effort you should get the same marks. But just being around smart people who work harder than normal students will itself make you do more work and put in more effort, its just the better atmosphere. so definately go selective

Keep it, General maths isnt even real maths in Uni. Any courses that require HSC mathematics as assumed knowledge also state that general maths isnt good enough. So in truth, doing general maths would be more of a waste of time that doing 2u maths
