Can anyone explain this to me?

Yes, mattyg87 is right. Because you're ranked first, your moderated assessment mark (88/100) is guaranteed to be the highest exam mark from your class. So someone in your class scored 88 as their exam mark. And you scored 82 as yours. The raw mark (98.5/100) is just used to demonstrate...

They generally do, with the top universities usually providing automatic scholarships to those achieving 99.95 and 100. :)

    More Stats=Better Sam?

We may work on devising a methodical approach to predicting future UAIs throughout 2005. In its current form, SAM was never intended to be able to predict UAIs. More statistics always improves accuracy. :)

Distinguished Achievers List (as a searchable Excel file)

Ahh, I intentionally left out the Distinction Courses because they don't really use the performance bands system. :)

    Honour Roll

They're based on raw HSC marks to one decimal place (and not exam marks alone as grimreaper said).
  10. Lazarus

    Well done ngai.

Yes, this is correct - the First in Course List and Top Achievers in Course List are both determined by raw HSC marks to one decimal place. In order to score a raw HSC mark of 100%, you need to attain a raw examination mark of 100% and be ranked first for your school assessment component.

    Scaling, aligning and UAIs

Yes. Yes. The scaled means for Physics and Economics are both higher than that of Business Studies which indicates that Physics and Economics are, on average, taken by students who tend to do better in all their courses than the students taking Business Studies do in all their courses. It...

    Appeal to Remark an Exam...Possible?

You personally cannot request a remark of your major work - you can only check that the mark that was awarded has been recorded correctly and so on. If you wish to appeal the mark itself, you will need to ask your Principal to speak to the Board.

When do we find out how subjects scaled??

The tables have been posted on the UAC website: http://www.uac.edu.au/admin/uai.html

    a question about raw marks

Yes, they are aligned marks. In most cases, your raw marks would be lower.

    SAM UAI Prediction

It happens sometimes - just depends on your courses and how much the candidatures have changed between years.

HSC mark for 2 unit when doing ext 2 math

Just because you do four units of maths doesn't mean that they will all count. Your scaled mark for chemistry will count if it is higher than either of your scaled marks in Extension 1 or Extension 2.

    HSC Performance Band Descriptors

It will mean any predictions will be lower than they should be, yes. :) But only if you're in that situation.
