Lol that's what gets me. People trust huge dogs unsupervised around children - I have witnessed more toddlers knocked over by their boisterous 30kg+ labs than any other dog. But yeah, as much as I defend the pures, I would not trust a mixed bulldog/pig dog any more than I'd trust a wolf hybrid.

I think that has more to do with their socio-economic status.

I don't inherently have a problem with mixed breeds (though I'd never personally own one). What I do have a problem with is dogs who think they're the boss being let into a house with toddlers - I more think the problem was that they were trying to assert dominance as the alphas on these kids...

This will sound authoritarian, but half the problem is irresponsible breeders. Temperament can be controlled, and most professional (i.e. show) breeders do this, and are also very picky about who buys their puppies. Backyard breeders, who supply most if not all of "dangerous" dog stock, do not.

They probably do scavenge, but they don't rely on it. They're efficient predators, and they're extremely important in controlling the kangaroo population west of the dingo fence (and farmers are starting to regret that fence as the roos eat the crops east of it) as well as feral foxes and cats...

You have a point there. A lot of dog breeds are inherently more "independent" of their owners because of what their jobs were - many shepherd dogs, sled dogs, etc. Those dogs require far more rigorous training (or rather, the owner asserting their position as alpha) than, would, my dog, for...
