    General Thoughts: Chemistry

There was exactly 9 marks worth of calculation questions in part B (so 9% overall), i saved them all for last then ran out of time to do them

    Need Help - MC question

Thanks! After i got the initial answer i solved for concentration but must have typed it in wrong on my calculator as i got 5x10^-6 (got right number now though)

    Chemistry Calculations.

I had the same problem as you so i went through all the past papers and tried doing their calculation questions. I understand them a lot better now but still have some troubles. Only way to get good is practice really

    Need Help - MC question

I can't figure out how they got the answer for the following calculation question: 20ml of 0.08mol/L HCl is mixed with 30ml of 0.05 mol/L NaOH What is the pH of the resultant solution? A) 1.1 B) 2.7 C) 4.0 D) 7.0 I keep getting 4.0 however the answer is supposed to be 2.7?

    Chemistry content or calculations?

I've found that after completing all the calculation questions from 2003 - 2010 (and still don't feel confident with them) the percentage of marks associated with calculations is around 10-18%. So if you don't do any calculations at all you still have the potential of getting a band 6

    Human Induced Climate Change

Not specifically this one, but this also illustrates the point, the temperature correlates with the solar winds. Now in terms of correlation vs causation, I don't know any factors which would allow humans to effect the sun's solar radiation production (removing the possibility of some unkown...

    Human Induced Climate Change

I believe that this is one of the more likely theories to explain it atm. There was a comparative graph shown (i will have to look for it) that overlayed the increase in heat with the increase in CO2 over time. What was revealed was that there was an increase in heat which was then followed by...

    Chemistry: Checklist

I did that book before trials for my revision (although took me 3-4 days to get through it). There was a couple things missing in it which could be on the exam, can't remember what they were though

    Chemistry: Checklist

According to the syllabus you will need to know either a lead acid cell or dry cell and be able to compare it to either a button cell or fuel cell or gratzel cell or lithium cell or vanadium redox cell You wont need to know both a lead acid and dry cell

    Chemistry: Anions/Cations Test

I have exactly the same problem you are, i am going to try and finish memorising them tonight (by rote) and if i come up with a method to help i will post it

    Chemistry predictions

Biology exam was more so application of skills rather then recalling memorised content this year. If this is the case then there will probably be a lot of calculation questions and scenarios that we have to interpret and explain etc. Things like presenting us with a piece of information that we...

    General Thoughts: Biology

I never agreed that it is valid evidence, however this is what supporters of punctuated equilibrium suggest as their proof. The same scepticism you hold I agree with and is also brought up in the encyclopaedia http://www.encyclopedia.com/topic/Punctuated_Equilibrium.aspx "Probably the most...

    General Thoughts: Biology

I don't want to get in a lengthy debate about it (not in this thread anyway), but there is actually a surprisingly small amount of what we would call transitional fossils. According to gradualism we should be finding thousands of them (yet there are quite few - which is why the idea of...

    General Thoughts: Biology

Ergo the theory in itself is flawed. However if transitional fossils never existed then the theory isn't lacking evidence but gradualism is making "transitional" fossils. The theory was originally produced as a response to the apparent lack of transitional fossils, not because there was lots of...

    General Thoughts: Biology

This would support gradualism not punctuated equilibrium. If it were the later then the fossils found would all have to be dated within a couple thousand years of each other, which if this were the case the likelihood of us finding them is extremely rare as the few that existed would have...
