It depends on the course you intend to apply for at university. I believe if you intend to apply for Engineering, you will probably need Physics. Taking on a Physics bridging course in university can be a chore unless you like the subject. It also depends on the other subjects you have chosen...

I'm unable to answer accurately all your questions but I think you need an account with mygov and link with the ATO. I think you can proceed to make changes on your ATO profile as your circumstances change. Otherwise give ATO a phone call, they are quite helpful. Better I think before Christmas...
