AA Tutoring: Two 99.95/99.65 ATAR 2012 NSB/NSG Graduates; Maths, Phys, Chem

I work with both Andy and Ally and I know first hand that they can deliver the goods- They have the marks obviously but more importantly they can express themselves and communicate concepts, something far more important than a good mark. Good luck!

how hard is it to get 95?

Oh I can actually answer the question now, in 2012, a raw mark of 86 was a 95 exam mark in Chem and a raw mark of 90 was a 96 in phys so say around 87 or 88 there.

    Reading Time

English- read essays and creative and work out what I was going to do. Leftover time spent on reading short answers. Phys/chem/Eco- flick through the paper to get an understanding of everything, make sure i can do everything, mentally note possible tricky spots/harder questions. I never saw the...

    Co-op Scholarships

I think for co-op at UNSW you need at least a 96 ATAR. Also you need to be competitive generally- so good academics, extracirriculars etc

Do year 11 ranks usually correlate?

It depends. For mine they linked up almost exactly the same. You'll notice that the very top people tend to stay very top. There will however be a few people that suddenly start trying and do really well. For you, you're doing well in year 11- that implies ability and effort- you won't lose that...

    Halp on Atar bruz

Pretty sure that can't be right. I was =3rd at school in 4U and 2% off first. The top 4U mark was 98 and my assessment was 97. 4U aligns VERY favourably, I doubt you drop 3 marks if you're second by 0.5%- the only way that's possible I would think is if the next highest mark was like mid 80's...

    how to state rank mathamatics?

    Don't make mistakes

A new perspective on the atar?

You should want to pay it. Cost is $20,000, and there is a direct benefit of the scientia scholarship as well as indirect benefits but ignore them. So benefit is (is engineering 4 or 5 years?). Lets say 4-> benefit is at least $40,000 so cost benefit says defs

A new perspective on the atar?

99.95 is worth a lot more than $20,000. Firstly, you get a 10k/year scholarship so for a five year course, you have $50k there. Then also from a tutoring perspective, it is very easy to get students- hence more money here and also indirectly with a higher ATAR, you can do whatever course you want.

Are The Teachers Realistic In Regards to Hours Per Night?

Look guys this is all an individual thing and depends so much on a lot of factors. I know .95'ers who did less than 2 hours a night and got state ranks with that as well. I also know .95'ers who studied 5 hours a school night. Personally, I was probs doing around 3 hours a night (and probs...

When is a function NOT differentiable?

A straight line can be differentiated. Consider the line y=1. This is a horizontal line with constant gradient of 0. The derivative is a function of the gradient at any point on the curve- hence the derivative of a straight line y=k for some constant k is dy/dx=0. Even other lines, like y=x has...

When is a function NOT differentiable?

When it is non-continuous (i.e. doesn't exist at that point). Like y=1/x at x=0. Also when things have like a sharp corner- technically when the limit of the gradient is different when you approach from both sides. Like y=|x| at x=0

    Is this right?

    Divide both sides by cosx

Has Anyone Studied Economics or Maths?

I'm doing commerce/law- I'm just first year but I enjoy it a lot - though I've always loved economics. What sort of things are you interested in? And I want to go into either criminal or corporate law when I graduate

    Help With Some ECON1101 Questions

Total rubbish collected will go down. This is because households now have an incentive to reduce the amount of rubbish they put out. From a cost benefit point of view, look at it like this- under the old system, the $6 covers everything. The marginal cost of putting out another rubbish bin is...

Do different prescribed text options scale differently?

The idea behind text scaling is that the question will suit some texts more than others- hence they will get higher marks- hence scaling to equalise the process. Hamlet doesn't always scale higher than speeches for example I would say. In fact this year I'd be extremely surprised if it did...

To ex-year 12's who did really well (99+ atar), did you take 10 units or more?

It doesn't really make much difference if you look from a purely statistical point of view. I know quite a few people who got 99.95- out of those, its pretty evenly split between those who did 10 units and those who did more (just thinking off my head, I think there are a few more with more than...
