    Physics Predictions/Thoughts

Hey guys, a question - for the applications of step up and step down transformers, how much detail have you gone to? Because I dont know whether it is worth memorising the structure of powerstations and use of pylons, etc. or just knowing the basic concept of stepping up voltage to reduce...

    Davisson germer experiment

“investigate de Broglie’s matter waves, and the experimental evidence that developed the following formula...” It doesn’t explicitly state Davisson-Germer, but I guess you could also use other scientists, maybe GP as well

Do you have the answer to this? So I can check

as i said, it is overkill, that would be the typical response for a 5+ marker from a state ranker haha.

Also, since you went super in depth, i’d also draw the comparison Planck made with standing waves to the vibrational modes, supporting quantisation

queries about physics NESA additional sample questions

They are not operating as a cell, they simply measure any positive or negative voltage at either end.

That’s a very thorough response, I loved your use of the idea of quantum oscillators (although I do think it is a tad overkill for high school physics). I’d also mention the similarity in both curves toward higher wavelengths but most importantly I’d define what a black body is, as, correct me...

    Davisson germer experiment

Bragg’s law essentially just calculated the wavelength of the electrons by determining the interference patterns of it through the nickel crystal. Now, as Balajanovski said, they pass through twice through the crystal so it’s not your typical diffraction equation, rather multiplied by 2. By...

    Davisson germer experiment

Bragg’s Law was a part of the old syllabus, however my tutor advised me its good to know and apply nevertheless as it is a DIRECT validation of the theory. Since the calculations performed using Bragg’s Law m\lambda=2d\sin\theta yields the same answer as using de Broglie’s derivation...

Another point, as @Balajanovski said, with orbital decay I’d explain as to why that happens. I would say, by Maxwell’s fourth equation (Ampere’s Circuitial Law), an accelerating charge (such as the electrons orbiting the nucleus, due to centripetal acceleration) will emit EMR, thus by the law of...

    Davisson germer experiment

Davisson-Germer is in the syllabus, however G.P. Thomson isn’t, just thought it’d be nice to share some extra info. :)

Its because the positive current enters at the negative terminal or electrode, hence the electrode measuring ‘negative’ current so to speak, would measure positive current instead.

Also you seem to have gotten some information wrong, you say that 1 in 8000 alpha particles were deflected directly back, however it was 1 in 8000 that were deflected back at an obtuse angle (>90 degrees). You also said something along the lines of the “the light shun” its “shone”, just little...

For older measurements I’d mention the work of Galileo and how his assistant uncovered their lanterns and used a sand/water based clock to determine the time took for the travel, and I’d memorise another technique - you can use Ole Romer (like you said, to measure the successive appearances and...

If you find a textbook that can describe his equations, that’d be a quantum electrodynamics textbook at uni haha 😆

    Physics Predictions/Thoughts

Woah, you memorised his equation?? for schrodinger just know how he introduced quantum ideas and the shift from a deterministic view on subatomic interactions to a probabilistic view, it uncovered the probabilistic nature of quantum particles. Also, explain how his model was also an improvement...

I’d say that is reasonable as a modern measurement, in fact I was also thinking of using interferometry as a modern technique

    Physics Predictions/Thoughts

Stefan Boltzmann law is pretty much a mathematical description of how luminosity, surface area and temperature are related, so no, you do not need to know it at all - however, if you want to impress the markers then go for it, its also a nice way to tie all the relationships together

Yep pretty much what TheOnePheeph said. Don’t worry too much about the experimental design but explain how he validated Maxwell’s Theory. Also, for Hubble’s Law I wouldn’t worry too much about the Cepheid Variable. Basically, what that means if you didn’t know is that this female scientist...
