Are you a Sydney UMATer? Could do with some tutoring!

Hi guys, Last minute one on one tutoring in person is now being offered to anyone who is serious about the UMAT business. So, if you are sitting the UMAT in the future and live in Sydney (or the surrounding suburbs) please read on! I am currently a second year medical student in UNSW, sat...

UMAT Pros: What helped you in S3?

I can tutor you if you live in Sydney. PM me if interested. But seriously none of those sudoku, minesweeper stuff work nearly as well as doing the actual questions for most people.

UWS Medicine academic requirements, non-school leaver.

Hey Grundo, I am pretty sure that UWS weighs your interview performance most. What happens is they look at your academic performance first, and if that is above a cutoff (ATAR 95 for non greater Western applicants, dunno about WAM though), they dont take it into consideration anymore, only the...

    Umat second time around?

Yeah I agree. If you think all the effort and money spent is worth a try, then just give it your best shot.

    Umat second time around?

Dont worry too much, I have had students that were sitting UMAT for the second time last year and they both got into med. One of them ended up in UNSW and the other all the way in Adelaide. In fact, I am currently tutoring someone whos sitting the UMAT for the second time as well and he's...

    Omg its the umat!

Hmmm I dont think so. UNSW changed this year so that the minimum ATAR is 96, instead of 95. I think you are looking at 190+ for an ATAR of 97

    MedEntry group discount.

I think you'll be disappointed with their workshop though...

    Omg its the umat!

Agreed - early 180s gets you interviews at half the unis out there. For med, that is.

    UMAT Scaling

Lol. I think FreshOffTheBoat is just expressing his dislike of Acer, thats all.

    UMAT Scaling

Well the thing is only ACER will know for sure if there will be changes. I would say it is not likely because what actually happens is that once in a few years, they will put in new style questions in the exam somewhere but according to MedEntry these new questions dont count towards your final...

    UMAT Scaling

Thats a good question actually, except it will be different this year because of the questions (and time) they've added to section 2 and section 3. In my year when I sat it (2008), some guy apparently ended up with 108 with section 1, section 2 got around 100 marks, and full marks for section...

what IS a 'good' mark for the UMAT?

65 %tile sounds right. Just remember the bell curve (think it was mentioned before). In the raw marks ranged 170 - 180, thats pretty much each mark higher = one percentile higher. Then it gets to a few marks every percentile in 180+. In my year someone got 195 and thats like 98%tile, 210 is...

    UMAT scores

I agree that MedEntry students GENERALLY get higher percentiles in the actual UMAT than the practice tests. As to percentiles... I was getting consistent 90+ percentiles in section 1 and 3 from the 3rd exan afterwards, and ~80 percentile in section 2 throughout. But my marks for section 1 varied...

    MedEntry

Their resources are actually quite good. In detail, they are the types of questions that are seen in the actual UMAT but like 20 - 40% harder, to just give you something extra. Especially the section 3 questions are really good to pratice with. The one on one tutoring is a bit hard to say since...

    Umat

Their practice exams and drills are pretty good. The guides are okay, I s'pose. But the actual workshop is REALLY bs. Not worth it, really. If you ever think you need an UMAT tutor (and if you live in Sydney) just PM me. =)
