Re: 2012 Year 9 &10 Mathematics Marathon Nope by solving the equating the two functions you should be able to get 3x's but.. idk perhaps I'm doing it wrong?

Do you make notes for Maths?

I do questions in a book, and if I find that they use a fair amount of logic or are interesting, or have subtle answers which I may only get on a good day, I circle that question. This ensures that I perform good even on a bad day in an exam (well, better) :)

*Reposting question for others who might want to find petal question http://community.boredofstudies.org/attachment.php?attachmentid=26350 Fawun, here's a hint. The area of the shaded parts is 100(the square) - (the middle of the petals) - (the corner of the boxes), which should be pretty...

    2012 Year 9 &10 Mathematics Marathon

Re: 2012 Year 9 &10 Mathematics Marathon Yeah that was the part I was flimsy about. It seemed (and still seems) perfectly logical to me and that there is no error there :( Since the vertices of triangle only make contact with 1 point on the circumference, and lines on a triangle are straight...

    2012 Year 9 &10 Mathematics Marathon

Re: 2012 Year 9 &10 Mathematics Marathon Can someone tell me why my method is wrong. The side of the triangle with 1/3 of the circumference of the outer circle forms a semi-circle with a radius of 0.5. Now we can find the area of these semi-circle's using pi*r^2 = pi*0.5^2 = 0.25pi...

Re: Years 9 & 10 2012 Chit Chat Thread Don't put yourself down :( Tbh I doubt anyone in this year 9/10 thread can do it (no offense) (and year 9/10's only). It's just so subtle.. and at this level we're use to seeing things straight forward. Besides it took me a while to get the answer (I would...

Re: Years 9 & 10 2012 Chit Chat Thread Yep just got A, interesting question (Did you want solutions?). I'm suprised that is even year 9 level.
