    You should also note that people who are maths or science orientated also tend to suck at English, a compulsory subject.

    It also depends on the marking scheme. For example, for general solutions (I know, which wasn't examined this year, but just an analogy), if you don't write "where n is any integer" or something that qualifies the value of n, then you could lose a mark etc.

    Yes, you can use DeMovire's theorem to find square roots of equations, since DeMovire's theorem is true for all real values of n. Too much fiddling around in my opinion though.

    It's from the Terry Lee book. Don't use it, it's way too confusing and lots of room for error. Plus it's not like you get a whole list of questions on this. In a test you'll probs only get like 2 marks worth, so it's not worth stuffing up by using some stupid shortcut.

    Umm z^5=-4+4i \\ So \ |z|^5 = \sqrt{32} \\ So \ |z|=\sqrt{2} Isn't that right? :S Reason I'm asking is that it's from Coroneos... which is usually very correct. This would be the first error that I have picked up, that is, if it is actually an error, which is what I'm trying to confirm.

    As I said, just because they put it in an assessment task, it doesn't necessarily mean it is in the course. And yes I did go through HSC past papers from 1990 and found one (1994 or 1995 IIRC). But it had a lead in part. So it probably is in the course. But funnily enough I don't think...

    Well, just because it appeared in a trial it doesn't necessarily mean that it's in the HSC course... I'll look through past HSC papers from 1990 and see if I find such questions. I know of course solving z^n = +/- 1 is certainly in the course though. Just not sure about z^n = a+ib.

    I think also a3 + b3 + c3 = (a+b+c)(a2 + b2 + c2 - (ab+bc+ca)) Correct me if I'm wrong though.
